42 mph is all she needs, all you want. That porpoising at 150 more RPM...just don't go there. You have good hole shot, great mid-range, great cruise....as they say on my wife's new fave show, "Housewives of New Jersey"....."Fagettabout it".

To go a step further...in terms of a Bob's jackplate...Tampa builders/guides, all input...how effective would a jackplate be in eliminating porpoising on a 12 degree open transom 22-2 at wide open throttle?

A jackplate will potentially make your high speed porpoising worse. You may also have to reprop with more cup in the blades if you go with a jackplate. The Smart Tabs aren't doing anything at 42mph, as they are fully retracted at that speed. Trim tabs would be the way to actually address the problem of porpoising at speed. Smart Tabs and jack plates are a lot like playing baseball with expensive football bats.

I'm assuming he is looking for more RPM and speed without going down in pitch since he said he was using a new prop. At 42mph and 5200 rpm on a Johnnyrude, I say trim down and let 'er eat as well, but if he really wants the rpm and extra few knots, tabs will do a lot more for his issue than a jackplate in my opinion.
