I am looking to put a new transom on my 1970 222 Flatback.  I'd like to have it done in Seacast.  How much would be reasonable to pay someone to do it for me?  I've had someone quote me $2500 but that seems kind of high.

I just did mine myself with Nida Core and I sure as hell would have paid someone $2500 to do it if I had the money.  The material itself was around $500, not including the fiberglass, mat, bondo and paint.

A big cost driver is are you just replacing the original open transom design or going with a enclosed transom. You really need to ask yourself; Am I going to keep this boat for the next twenty years? A marine plywood transom, properly sealed could easily go for 30 years before needing replacement again; just like the original at a much lower cost than a synthetic board or poured transom.

I shopped around a lot.  I got prices from people who seemed more like shade-tree mechanics rather than true professionals for about $2500.  I decided to have the inventors of SeaCast do the project for me and they are going to do it for considerably less than the over priced ya-hoos who are here in GA.  The downside is I have to get it to Florida for them to do the repair but with the cost savings,  i should be fine.  The real advantage of having SeaCast do the repair is I know it will be done 100% right.
