170 & Jack Plate

Need some help from those of you that own a 170 equiped with a Jack Plate.   I installed a Bobs jack plate and when i put the boat in reverse, I was really suprised at how much water flows up through the jack plate and into the boat.  I thought it was bad before when i put the boat in reverse.  Its fine at Idle, but any extra throttle and in comes the water.  Any suggestions and has anyone else found this to be a problem?  Any Ideas on how to stop/prevent or slow this down?

Every low transom boat I have ran with a jack plate does the same thing, seems to funnel the water between the transom and the jack plate. Don't really know of a easy fix though

I didn't say the fix has to be easy, but I was thinking about cutting out a piece of starboard in the shape of the bottom of the Jack Plate.  Then mounting it to the bottom. Hopefully it would stop/slow the flow of water in the upward direction.  Anyone ever tried this?  I figure even if it does not stop the water completly and it slows it down, it shoudl be helpful.  I have run a great deal of boats with jack plates and never had this much water coming in while in reverse.

I will say however, the boat performs a great deal better with the jack plate installed.

I have the same issue with my 170.  I thought about using some rubber blanket material to prevent water from coming up.  But I got lazy and figured out hat if I trimmed up some the water from the prop goes under the boat rather than in.  The starboard could help.  I find I get more water into the boat from backing into the wind and splashing than up through the plate.

Maybe a splash board across the transom or a thin aluminum plate under the jack plate should help
