Transom Replacement
« on: April 04, 2006, 04:26:42 PM »
Question,

I have begun a transom replacement on my 1970 19-6. I am replacing it from the outside. Any suggestions on how to get the core out from the three inches or so left around the cut out? I am thinking either grinding it out or trying to cut it out with a saw or simply chipping it out. But if someone has any suggestions I am all ears.

Also since I already made the cuts from the outside of the boat please don't tell me I should have done it from the inside.

All the best,

Scott

Pictures would help but on my last boat I used a small chainsaw, grinder, and hammer and chisel.  Not fun.

Yes, chainsaw.  Judiciously use the tip to dig out the old wood.  Be really careful of kickback.
