If you want to be a complete whack job, in the areas of high radius like the flare in the bow, you can make custom radiused sanding blocks out of the hard blue foam insulation that fit the radius that you are going to sand. It takes more time but you will not have to worry about flat sports developing in the flare. This is an old wooden boat trick that I used in a previous life to keep from sanding hard spots on round bilge lobster boats and ones with a high flare bow that were built in Nova Scotia, (picture a flare similar to a Harkers Island bow for you southern boys)..
