New to me 1998 Aquasport 175
« on: April 14, 2012, 10:45:04 PM »
My dad had this boat sitting on his boat lift for around ten years. He hasn't taken it out in around 8 so I asked him if I could have it. Say hello to my new patch reef explorer!!

I'm getting her back into shape to go out on the water. Here is what I have done so far:

-Motor Shifting assembly replaced (shifting was stuck and they updated the part)
-Carburetor cleaning
-Ordered new battery (Optima D27M)
-Pulled heads and checked condition of cylinders. replaced head o-rings thermostat seals and thermostats.
-Fixed Tilt/trim switch
-Removed mote cooler
-Removed Aquasport labels on one side

To do list:

-Driveshaft bearing has play
-Fuel line replacement
-Order and install Yeti or Engel cooler
-Fix/replace switches on switch panel
-Remove Aquasport labels on other side.
-wet sand and polish the whole hull
-fix the rest of the lower unit problems that I find

I'm sure there are other things but I will run into those when they pop up.

Here are some pics:

This is what happens when you buy used trailers... The guy didn't know that it was that bad. The funny thing about that is that I drove the boat about 20 miles from the ramp before parking it. My wife and mother in law were cleaning the inside of the boat. when they both went to the front... **'snap-crackle-pop;*.!!!

I replaced the tongue, axle and springs:

Yeah, I'm really happy with it. I have to make an order for a few parts but other than that, she should be ready to go soon! When I took the lower unit apart, there was a funky wear pattern on the pinion hear. I have to reset the preload on the lower drive shaft to pinion gear on the lower unit. after that, and the seals, the lower unit will be ready to go back on!

Well, aside from the lower unit, I have a couple of other projects that I am working on. I got an Atlas jack plate for free from one of the customers at the marina that I work at. It's in working condition but I want to clean up all the aluminum and make it look somewhat new. It has some pretty bad pitting in some areas. I'm probably going to MIG weld and fill the deeper pits and just polish the rest of it. It also needs a new motor but I need to figure out how to track one down. the jack plate is all taken apart right now.

The wiring was kind of funky. My plan is to straighten it out so I made a two hundred dollar order from http://www.GenuineDealz.com/ , that should be here in about a week and a half, and I'm going to organize it all.

My order:

1  Blue Sea 6006 - m-Series Mini Battery Switch ON/OFF

1  3/8 in Adhesive Lined Heat Shrink Tubing - $/ft Red

2  1/2 in Adhesive Lined Heat Shrink Tubing - $/ft Clear

1  3/8 in Adhesive Lined Heat Shrink Tubing - $/ft Black

1  2/0 AWG Straight Battery Terminal Bimetal Positive

1  2/0 AWG Straight Battery Terminal Bimetal Negative

5  8 AWG Tinned Marine Battery Cable Boat Wire RED /ft

5  2 AWG Tinned Marine Battery Cable Boat Wire RED /ft

1  Marine Panel Switch Momentary (On)Off(On) DPDT Blue

1  150 Amp 48V Common Bus w/ 2 Posts & 10 Screws

1  Mounting Panel Single Switch Mount

2  2 AWG Tinned Lug Cable Crimp Connector End 3/8 in

1  8 AWG Tinned Lug Cable Crimp Connector End 1/4 in

1  8 AWG Tinned Lug Cable Crimp Connector End 3/8 in

1  8-2 AWG Straight Boot - Red

1  8-2 AWG Straight Boot - Blk

1  3/4in Heavy Wall Adhesive Heat Shrink Tubing RED $/ft

1  1/4 in Adhesive Lined Heat Shrink Tubing - $/ft Red

2  3/4 in Adhesive Lined Heat Shrink Tubing - $/ft Clear

1  3/4in Heavy Wall Adhesive Heat Shrink Tubing BLK $/ft

2  1/4 in Adhesive Lined Heat Shrink Tubing - $/ft Clear

1  1/4 in Adhesive Lined Heat Shrink Tubing - $/ft Black

1  150 Amp 48V Common Bus w/ 2 Posts & 10 Screws

4  20 Amp 4 Position Terminal Block

1  22-18 AWG heat shrink ring terminal #8 hole - 25pk

1  16-14 AWG heat shrink ring terminal #6 hole - 25pk

1  16-14 AWG heat shrink ring terminal #8 hole - 25pk

1  22-18 AWG heat shrink ring terminal #6 hole - 25pk

This is part of the jackplate that I am working on. One side has been polished and the other has not.

Here's the aquasport's consoles with its guts ripped out...

The inside of the console. You can see the new battery.

This one's on Aquasport. I'm surprised they would screw it that close on the edge. I'm going to have to figure out what the core is and epoxy some material for the screw to screw into.

The two wires are held together by the fuse...

Good info! I don't plan to put any decals on the side of the boat. I did however get in touch with them looking for parts that you cant get anymore like the console door assembly. I gave them a long list so I'll let you know how it goes.

My plan with the hull is to wetsand and polish the whole boat at some point, get all of the bottom paint off, and paint the bottom of the boat like how contender does:

Nice clean up job on the boat,

There's days I wish i had a bigger boat, and there's days I wish I had a smaller boat LOL
Yours is a great size, and more economical to take out.

Woohoo Grouper season , and the weather sucks...

Did some work on the aquasport. Got the wiring started and I got the engine running:
