Rooster Tail off Transducer
« on: April 10, 2012, 04:38:11 PM »
Hey Guys -

Anyone have any issue with the transducer kicking up a rooster tail onto your outboard?  I do and it really pisses me off!

There was a thread on THT some time ago and I can't seem to find it.  They used a plumbing flange or something....anyways, anyone have a good idea to prevent this rooster tail?

I guess the first response would be is the transducer mounted too deep or out of square? I know I had to play with both of mine of the flats boat and the 22-2. The humminbird was easy on the flats boat but the Furuno on the 22-2 was a bear since it required that it be mounted much lower in the water. But I got them not to shoot rooster tails into the engines and still not loose bottom at high speed.

I'm watching this dang video and hearing this dude speak and thinkin'
"Now that is a voice I have heard before..."

Then I saw who uploaded the video and said out loud,
"Well, I'll be a Monkey's Uncle - that is The Man himself !"

Well, it was a good 'teachable moment'....  :salut:

Wes,
Now here is the proper way to mount that tranducer...

The inboard edge just slightly below the hull bottom, that was what was producing that monster rooster tail.  This is how I install all transom mount ducers.  I also moved it inboard from the starboard tab...

And, yes, those are your UW lights you see there...

We'll see how they look come dark...

Humminbird makes a rubber filler plug that you can put between the transducer and the hull to reduce rooster tail.  But, like SB says, if it's mounted right you should not get much off it...
