hammerhead livewell drain
« on: April 09, 2012, 08:29:55 PM »
Anyone know what size drain plug a hammerhead livewell takes?
I lost my plug today and raced to worst marine and bought a 11/2" inch which was too big. Its gotta be 11/8" or 11/4" just want to know for sure so I can order a few online.
Thanks

Tommy used some off the wall 90 degree drains that are hard to find plugs for on some of his live wells. Jim Lemke has the same issue.
I assembled my well myself and made sure I used a 90 degree I could get drain plugs for no problem.

I will be talking to Jim this morning and ask him where he got his plug from.

FYI,

You can make your own using an expandable freeze plug from the auto parts store. They usually come in 1/8 increments starting at 3/4 diameter. Take off and discard the zinc plated hardware and install the brass or stainless hardware from a standard drainplug. It works and you make a bunch of them pretty inexpensively for spares. I just save my old drainplugs for the donor hardware.

Matt,

I think most are rigged with 1 1/2 inch drains. TH Marine makes the plugs that fit well. I can order a couple for you to see if they work. I can mail them to you or send the with one of the Tampa Bay guys heading your way in 2 weekends.

Sorry, reread your post and saw that 1 1/2 plugs won't work. I can try sending 1 1/8 plugs instead. I have never seen the 1 1/4. This is the one with the standpipe?

It has no stand pipe but one could be used. I'm using a 11/4" brass bilge plug right now till I find the right rubber plug
