Wheel bearings
« on: April 05, 2012, 07:28:41 PM »
Decided to replace wheel bearings today, I went to agri supply here locally and located the bearings, $22 for the kit.  Then I looked at the entire hub and bearing assembly, $23.  No brainer.  Both the hubs and kits were made in china, so no choice there.  I would prefer American made parts, but they are getting hard to find.

Tomorrow, I begin the process of rewiring, I only plan to do a little at a time to make it easy.  There are a few switches that need to be replaced now, so I'll start there.

Agri-Supply rocks!  That place is great!  I was making a delivery to Atlanta motor speedway when I found one of the hubs on my trailer disintegrated and was about to fall off when I stopped for some Chic-fil-a.    I called roadasprin who used to be a trucker and he told me I was an exit north of Agri-Supply.  I took off the one wheel and limped there.  The sales help were awsome!  I bought the tools and everything I needed to tear the hub down right there in the parking lot.  The axle stub was damaged and I called a local welder for help replacing it.  He came out...  looked at it and suggested since the damage was on top and the center of the bearing would cover it I should just put it together as is.  so I did...  worked fine.  In fact I'm still running that same set of bearings on that trailer years later.

I am not sure If you are talking about the one in Tifton or Valdosta. We just got one in Valdosta, but there has been one in tifton for years. Both have Chic-fil-a, slightly north of the agri-supply. They both have a great supply of trailer parts and such. Very cool place.

I was in the one off I-75 about two or three hours south of Atlanta.   When I went to get my boat in SC I was bummed that there was one we passed by but both times we went by it was after hours.
