bait well removal
« on: March 21, 2012, 09:08:40 AM »
I was wondering if I removed the bait well and installed a hach instead for working in bildge.I never use it all it does is fill with water. The question is would installing a hatch make the transum weaker.

Assuming you are still running the 85 XF, if it has the same type well as the CCP (I believe it does but a pic would confirm), then there is a gap between the well and the transom so removal will not affect the overall strength. Water will still enter the bilge if the hatch cover is of poor sealing quality and in a following sea, it's important to be sure it is dogged and stays that way. If not, things will get dicey in a hurry. :o

Still have the same boat XF200 there is a gap.I was thinking about getting a hatch that is water tight and keep it locked down unless working in bilge or just glass it in altogether.Thank you capt.Bob

They must have changed the layout since 1981. Is it a I/O or a outboard?
