Suggestions for a 1987 17ft...
« on: March 28, 2006, 09:25:38 PM »
Any suggestions to dress up the drain holes of the gunnel boxes (rod holders?)  My newly aquired boat just had a silicone mess around the 1" holes.

Can you post a picture of the area in question?

If it's where I think you're describing, razorblade off all the gobbed-up silicone back down to the gelcoat and see what's what there.  Once the silicone's off and if the holes are reasonably round you can snap in white grommets.

Somebody in the past enlarged the drain holes, perhaps crudely, and tried (and failed)  to "dress 'em up" with the silicone.  Those holes on my '72 170 are only about 1/2" diameter.

Home Depot has all sorts of odds & ends in their hardware dept.  Browse around their bins or ask the helper there and tell him what you need.  Maybe also try West Marine or a good local hardware store.
