Cuddy access doors
« on: March 10, 2012, 12:45:30 PM »
This may be a silly question but have any of you measured your cuddy doors ? I was going to make a set since mine are missing and found that there is a 2 inch difference in width of the opening top to bottom ? I am somewhat stumped do I have a structural problem ?

A taper from top to bottom was the standard for companionway hatches for a "shipshape and yacht like" appearance, from the days of wooden boats and iron men..  It gives the hatch a non block like look when there are so many other curved surfaces around.  That said, as long as the door trim is not loose that is the way it was built. Most folks would not notice it unless they put a tape on it.  It is not something that you notice while looking at it because of all the other non straight lines in the boat but if it was dead square, it would just look wrong..

Early FF's like yours and mine had two panels that slid down from above into a track and locked when the hatch was closed down on top. Easy to duplicate and add tracks on each side.

Thanks for the information , I have a panel that slides on the top that would serve as a lock point and hinges for two doors but no doors.
