Bob,

We made this stainless panel for the console on the Contender specifically for the Bahamas and the Keys. I don't know which location is worse for theft. It only slows thieves down if they are really intent, but most of them will see the plate and move on down the dock to easier pickings.

Eugene,
Thieves are lazy.  We both know that...

When I worked at WC/AS, I would leave my tools to the port forward side of the console on a 225 or 250 Osprey, within clear view from the floor through the transom door, when I went home at night (yes, we worked long hours back then, 0600 to 1730).  Guys used to ask me "aren't you afraid of some certain people stealing them...No, I said, thieves are lazy, they would have to climb up in the boat to get them.  They'll move on to an easier target..."

That's why they are thieves.  No work involved... :x  :x  :x  :x

as far as taking a 23footer across the stream- you might contact Albury Bros boats- they produce boats in south florida and still in the bahamas. you might be able to meet up with some new boat owners as they come back from the bahamas- getting over there is a different issue.

I had some idiot steal my good dock lines in the keys last year, got back to my slip and nothing to tie off with

This year I'm gonna paint those suckers so I know who's boat to sink if it happens again.

Sorry it's been awhile since I've posted back to some of your questions. I don't get much of a chance to get online when I'm at the fire house. T-Race, I'm headed to west end and then down to port lucaya @ bells channel. I hear that the yellowfin tuna run in that area that time of year so that's my plan. I have a couple other friends coming with now so all should go well. I'll be sure to keep you posted on how the trip goes. I'll put a picture of my boat up on here too, so you guys can see what I'm taking across. It's a 23 sea ox WAC.

I'm not bringing any weapons other than my own two fists, which I've used over there before. Hopefully I won't have to again though. It's more of a hassle than it's worth unfortunately. The thieves are bad but I just plan on bringing all my things in with me overnight.

I just went yesterday and bought a Lowrance HDS 7 chartplotter/fishfinder combo. West Marine has the first generation models on sale for 899 right now so I bought one. I also have a back up handheld. I've compiled a list of everything I need to get and everything that needs to be done before I go so no worries!!! I'm going to be prepared for once, lol. Keep the curiosity coming. We may end up with a regatta here before it's all over.

Eugene told me yesterday about the heavy theft in the keys. That is hard to fathom...not much theft here of anything. Maybe its all the little pink pocket pistols.

Slight derail...and now, back to Gulf Stream crossing.

The keys too?!?!? Man....I can't go anywhere. The keys were going to be my backup plan if the bahamas trip didn't work out. Dang! Maybe I oughta bring a weapon. I've got some good ones to choose from too.

Stolen in the Keys, then "shipped" throughout the Caribbean, including the Bahamas...where I guess it's stolen again?

Okay.....so I have at least two, maybe three boats going with so far. A buddy of mine with a 22 shamrock, another with a 20 seacraft (and I'm nuts, hah!), and possibly my old boss in a bahama 31. Vonkamp, are you still interested? Sorry to pester, I'm just trying to get all my ducks in a row.
