Our member Wingtime is proof that good boats come to those who wait, especially if your can travel a little.

If you want to do more Gulf fishing a 17 is on the small side but can be done, as with any boat watch the weather and choose your days.

Where's that big johnson video when we need it

I'll keep looking!
I guess the concensus is the 170 isn't big enough to make a real difference?

Part of the appeal of this boat is the relatively newer motor with low hours, which was rebuilt 2 years ago. I am getting tired of constantly working/hanving problems with my old Johnson.

That does look like a nice 17, priced a little high for me even with the newer motor.

Pete was that an actual commercial, better anything I've seen for Yamaha or the others.

I don't know what the real value is, I was thinking of offering around $4-4.5

I don't want to lowball the guy but I am in college and not rolling in the dough....yet..

You could just say the above to the guy and just ask what the lowest he would take for it, used boat prices are always what someone is willing to pay so if you can't come to a price your comfortable with keep looking.

4 is a good place to start, make the sale contingent on a check of the engine by a yamaha tech, just cause it looks good....

Okay, thanks for the advice guys.

My idea is that this will be an interim boat for me between now and when I get established out of school and can afford a little more...

Have a little more reach without much more cost....hopefully!

If I got another boat, I would have to sell it to offset the costs.

Thanks! I don't mind at all. I am glad I found this resource both for my current boat and any future purchases I might look into.

Saw this 175...Looks just as clean and has a livewell...

http://mobile.craigslist.org/boa/2794225526.html

Planning on checking it out this weekend! This one seems like it requires a bit more repair so I feel like I can get away with shooting for around $4.

rolltide, as a reference: I just bought a 1989 175 with a 1999 Merc 115 for $4,000 up in Rhode Island (more inflated economy than south) with sh!tty but functioning trailer, and 3 series Humminbird FF.

But: boat is in bad cosmetic condition, particularly interior.  But floor and hull is solid minus one dent where fiberglass is visible, and like I said, boat started, albeit not easily (cold temps and in storage for a few months).  And owner had no idea of hours on the engine, but the engine ran.  So I'm really gambling.  Also, besides the started I have no idea what electronics work and what doesn't.

I wish I had gotten him down to 3,500 or so.  Use NADAGuides!  I wish I used this to  leverage my seller!  And I shouldve used the lack of hours to bring him down.

Sorry to jack your thread, but do any of you out there think i got a good deal?
