240 Rebuild

Finally managed to get registration for the 240.  She is now "CT 3628 BB".  The obstacle of not having the previous out-of-state registration number was overcome with the help of the Top Gun in our state Boating Div.  He had a little chat with DMV and poof, the problem evaporated.  Although the boat will not be in commission for the year I expect the rebuild will take, I wanted to nail down the registration situation to be sure no lien, un-paid tax or other unpleasantness stood in the way.  Now we're rolling.

Found a 24' EZ Loader roller trailer up in RI.  Fresh water use only so no rust. Has an electric winch (what luxury!) which will make hauling a matter of flipping a switch.  Will post a picture when I pick it up.

When the weather warms up some I'll break out the pressure washer & bleach and have at it.  Has to be a warm day for that since I generally wind up soaked to my skivvies.

That's good you did that that. Now all the work/money will be well spent on something you own.

that was one of the first thing's I did, transfer the title. I still don't have the registration, but that's not a big deal as I own it.

In FL the hull regestration number's don't change from one owner to the next.

The numbers don't change here either from one owner to the next within state.  CT, and most other states I believe, appear to keep track of boats by the reg. number, not the HIN.  That's why CT wanted the Mass. number to track the boat's history.  Another difference is that CT is a non-title state for boats...but Mass. & RI are title states.

While I've got you on the thread, warthog5, when I replace the floor I want to put down a fairly aggressive non-skid on the deck.  The molded diamond pattern is fine if the deck is only wet, but with fish innards, scales and the usual gore from a busy day, I'll need something that has real bite to it.  Any suggestions?

Some folks put one of the non-slip/abrasive additives in paint or gelcoat to get a slip-resisitant finish.  I have seen some of these work really well, but some also looked less than attractive.  The additives are available from all the major marine paint manufacturers.

Hey Jim, don't forget the post I did on how to do non-skid using glass bead.  The result is very rugged.  I remember someone here following the directions and coming back saying it worked great for them too.  Another option and very easy to do.

240 delivered.  Ten minutes to unload.





First thing was to remove the painted lettering on the side of the boat and transom. Sprayed on Easy-Off, waited an hour & hosed it off.  No trace of paint left and no effect on the gelcoat.  That lettering really had to go!

Started unloading everything loose; hardware, hatches, floor panels, swim platform, seats.  Tomorrow clean-up starts.

Now is about the time you sit back and think about what you are doing.  Then quickly flush those thoughts out of your mind and go crazy!
