Splashed Reel Crazy
« on: February 28, 2012, 10:36:10 PM »
Well, I splashed Reel Crazy in the lake for a test run after getting her all serviced up and ready for the get together.  She started right up..  Idled perfectly at the dock.  So I decided to take Capt Rons advise and head on out...  If anything is gonna happen it will happen out there!  :)   Headed out in the lake and opened her up..  Get up on a plane in no time.  Not too bad on the bow rise.  GREAT view and comfortable driving position.  The hydraulic steering is SWEET.  No feed back and easy to maneuver at the dock.  I played around with some WOT runs.  PLayed with the motor trim and trim tabs.  I have some learning to do but overall I'm VERY happy with the boat.  She gets up to just over 40 MPH at 5600 RPM WOT.  I was happy with that.  I'd say she is propped just right.  I played with the livewell and wash down.  The pump is pumping but I wasn't impressed with the flow of the water... also there was some NASTY water that came out at first.   Here's a few Aqua porn videos for ya:

I just wanted to thank Marc and Scott and everyone else on this great site for all the help on getting such a great boat!

AWESOME!!!  Love that motor!  And, I know some may not have noticed, but see how that compass backlight comes on with the nav lights?  The way it's supposed to be wired... :thumright:  :thumright:

Yup I like that.  Thats how I would wire it too!  Yeah I'm impressed by the Johnson.  pretty quiet for a two stroke.  Smooth too.    Bob, any ideas on the poor performance of the live well/wash down pump?

Scott,  She's much cleaner than when you saw her last...  While towing her to the ramp I was loving how nice and shinny she looked in the rear view mirrors!  I had her parked near a oak tree so I  have to clean the decks a little better.

Scott, just head south on I-95 to Jacksonville, pick up 301 to I-75.  You'll be here in six hours!

That wash down pump may need to be backflushed, they sometimes suck in weeds and stuff and get clogged.I flush mine by removing the hose at the pump and putting a hose on it you should see water running out the intake on the hull bottom.there are clips that just pull off and release the hose.I can take pics of it if you need :salut:

Bruce,
Try Pete's suggestion, but there could be another cause.  If it is the original pump, couple that with corrosion in the original wire harness, and that pump won't be seeing the voltage that it wants to operate at a level one would expect.  Even though most 12V appliances are rated to operate at. say 10.5-14V, they REALLY want around 12.2-12.5V.  Too low a voltage, and they'll run, but weakly.  Too high a voltage, and they'll soon burn up...

Yeah I think your right.  There was some nasty snodgy smelly water that came out of it when I first turned it on...  after letting it run the water in the live well was funky looking.  I'm betting (hoping) it has something blocking it.  If not then out comes the VOM.
