1995 Fiberglass Fuel Tank
« on: February 20, 2012, 10:38:07 AM »
I am looking at 1995 175 Osprey with a fiberglass tank.  I have read reports that these tanks built in the 1980's deteriorated quickly when exposed to ethanol fuel and caused engine fouling and failures.  However, this boat is a 1995 model and does not seem to have any issues.  Did AS use a modified glass tank in the 90's to prevent failures?

Maybe it is molded plastic.  I'll have to look again, but I thought I saw fibers in the glass.  Does anyone know what was the standard tank used in the mid 90's?

Most likely roto-molded polyethylene

I believe Poly tanks were standard on the smaller boats, including my 225, the 245's had aluminum tanks.

Scott and Scott are correct, roto-molded polyethylene, and, as Scott pointed out, used on all AS's up to including the 225.  The 245/250 and 275 got aluminum.

If I was building a boat today?  I'd go with roto-molded.  The problem is finding one that fit's the confines of the tank compartment, yet still allows maximum tankage...
