Multi-Boat purchase & swap
« on: February 16, 2012, 03:06:31 PM »
OK, again, thanks for everyone's help so far...

Because I haven't found one boat that has what I want, I'm trying to do a two boat purchase & use the best of both boats to end up with a 22-2 that works for me.  Then sell the other boat... good luck!

So far, I bought a 1969 flatback 19-1.  Comes on a nice aluminum tandem axle trailer, has solid deck & transom, refurb'd center console w/nice electronics & new windscreen, new poly gas tank & lines, new wiring... downside to this boat is it's overpowered w/a 175hp Johnson.  The engine is in great shape though.  I planned to match that with a 1972 22-2 that's underpowered with a 90hp Johnson & swap engines/components.  I had a friend look @ the 1972 22-2 this morning & he confirmed the hull is a flatback (I was looking for a mid-vee)... structurally, the hull looked pretty good, but the gel coat is highly oxidized, bow rail loose, cushions gone, etc... in addition, the owner has the boat PARTIALLY covered by a tarp that's too small.  Makes you wonder how it was kept the last 40 yrs.  Add to that the engine looks bad... even if the compression numbers are good, it's curb appeal is ZERO which won't help sell the 19-1 once I'm done with the swapping... I don't think I want to spend the money to get the 22-2 checked out now...  I know... where are the pics!  I haven't had any luck getting photos uploaded... frustrating cause I'm usually pretty good with that.  Maybe my mac doesn't speak photobucket?  I'm sure there are plenty of you out there thinking "there was no way that plan could have gone smoothly... too many moving parts!"  Well, I own the 19-1 & it's solid.  Worst case would be that I run the 19-1 for a few summers to get my "feet wet"...
I'll keep trying with the pics...

Bro, there are so many boats out there,  Some good, some bad.  Hell, I looked for approximately 2 years before I found my 19-6. You have a really cool boat there and I would run that 19-1 as long as you can.  Sure it might be a "bit" overpowered but think on the bright side.

1. Your not underpowered (which is worse)
2. You could bring alot of Fried Chicken on board and still jump out the hole
3. You could easily pull skiers, tubes, wake board etc, etc, etc.

Now lets see some PICS :salut:
I work on a Mac too

Use the bulk uploader to load multiple photos to photobucket.  At the bottom of the page, click on options, resize and choose large.  I haven't been able to post pics here any other way.

In the meantime, go to Craigslist MA, Cape and Islands and search Aquasport.  I think those are the boats he's talking about.  By the way, the 19'6 has definately had the transom replaced.

OK,  I think I threw a strike this time... I may be slow, but my work is poor!

My plan was to take this 1969 19-1:

and swap parts with this 1972 22-2:

pictures of the 22-2 look not bad eh?  Well, it photographs well, cause when I had it checked out, it needed way more work than I had time for... problem was, I jumped the gun on the 19-1 and bought it this week... Just when I thought I screwed up, I found this 1976 22-2:

This boat has a good compression check, 2 yr old gelcoat, deck, transom, console, gas system, wiring, and a nice aluminum trailer... so, I bought it for not much more than I was going to pay for the "1972 project" flatback... now I can swap parts between the 19-1 and this boat & sell the 19-1.  Cause they're both gonna be in my driveway at the same time, I'll run both boats for a while to see what I like about each & outfit the 22-2 with my favorite parts...!  Here's my previous ride:

It's an upgrade!

A person can never have too many boats!  That 191 is a good looking ride.  I bet it will fly with that 175.  I always loved the 191 hull.  And that 222 is a sweet ride.  Where is the 222 at in Florida?  Looks like central Florida.  What does the 222 need?  It looks like it is ready to go.    Enjoy swapping parts and playing with them.

akbridge,

You're right, the 22-2 is pretty much ready to splash... but, seeing that I have both boats, I think I'll probably run them both for a while to figure out what I want to swap if anything.  Probable list:
- center console; I prefer the one in the 19-1... it's fully refurb'd w/gelcoat & new 3/8" windscreen plus it has stereo, VHF radio, grab rails, chrome wheel & control & some teak... has a more classic look.
- bow rail; will the rail on the 19-1 fit the 22-2?
- engines; not sure how difficult this will be... go from Merc to Johnson, but the 175hp has way less hours on it & it makes sense to put the bigger engine on the 22-2.

Probably run both boats for June then put the 19-1 up for sale...

Can't wait for spring!!

It would be a travesty if you put a bow rail on the 22-2.   :puker:
