But, to be fair:

We recently had a president who hailed from Texas...by way of Kennebunkport.

That guy....not sure he'll ever have a library dedicated in his honor. And not so sure he can correctly spell "library".

Yeah, but he wasn't the President of Texas.  (The GWB library opens later this year at the SMU campus in Dallas)

If you did secede you would have to acquire Arkansas at that time (the Remington ammo factory is just east of Little Rock) !!!

That sounds more like Massachusetts. We've had the no "cupcake" policy and "zero tolerance" in many of our school systems for years. It's frightening the power these Health boards/departments have (at town and state level) in dictating policy.

Getting back on the original track...   Raeford, NC is home to some of the biggest turkey processors in the US (House of Raeford, Perdue, etc.).  Amazing they would send the girl home with a turkey sammich in her lunch.  Maybe she didn't have enough cigarettes??  Maybe there was not enough fried food?  Low Twinkie content?

This whole 'school nutrition' thing is such BS - another example of your tax dollars at work.

PJ is an 8th grade math/science teacher....based on Title 1 her school serves FREE breakfast to every student, every day, if they want it.  How nice.  Guess what?  They grab the chocolate milk, the honey-buns.  Not the fruit, cereal, etc?...What???.  You should see what is ACTUALLY served in the lunch lines at her school - all crap that's full of sugar, salt, fat.  But it doesn't matter, 'cause the gummint approved it.  Besides, most of these kids are eating McDonald's for dinner every night, or frozen pizza, or worse.

I'll bet that cumulatively,  all 3 of my kids didn't buy school lunches 20 times in 12 years.  Nobody ever 'inspected' their lunches.  Today they are all fit, slim, happy, healthy.   Given the choice, they don't tend toward sugary food.  At restaurants they usually ask for water...not Cokes.  (Ok...beer or wine sometimes these days.)  They know how to cook.  They run 5k's.  The 2 boys can hit a Blue Winged Teal in a 20 mph cross-wind.  And clean the 12 ga. afterwards.   One thing's for sure:  They aren't pu**ies.    Is there a correllation between their diets when they were young, and who they are today?  Damn right.  Because just like with their diets, Washington wasn't rasing them.  I was.

The point is, the gummint thinks it knows better than you do about parenting.  But the gummint is never going to "instill good decision-making" in kids.  Some federal slug, in charge of The Department of Worrying About Sack Lunches, is such a perfect metaphor for why we are circling the drain as a nation of fat, inept, overly emotional, badly-nourished pu**ies.
