Removing the fuel fill hose 1978 Aquasport 2000 Pro

I am new to this forum so lease bare with me. My fuel fill hose disintegrated at the tank and needs to be replaced. I removed clamps and disconnected the ground wire at both ends. Also attached a thin rope to the hose and another thin one to the ground wire which is taped to the hose. As I tried to remove the old hose at the Fill end on the transom, it came out about 8-10" and then stopped. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get it to pull out any farther. I like the idea of duct taping the new hose to the old one so the new one is in place when the old one comes out.
My question is twofold. How many feet of new hose do I need for that boat? and more importantly, what do I need to do to get the old hose out of there without cutting the floor or hull? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Snaildarter

Welcome aboard! I'm a little confused, your fuel fill is located on the transom? Are you talking about your fuel line from the tank to the motor or the hose from the fill to the tank?

I am sorry about the confusion. The fuel fill is not located on the transom. It is on the gunnel midship where most of them are found.

No worries, so you are talking about the fill hose correct? Did you try some lube? Some dishwash soap with a little water will help.

I didn't but will do so tomorrow. Found some other ideas online. What do you think about this one?
One trick we use it to snake a piece of long old garden hose or similar down the fill line, with the fill line removed from the tank. Then, once that hose comes out by the fill ... route it through the NEW hose, then tie the garden hose off by putting line through the garden hose and back up around the new fill hose and taping that line securely around the new fill hose.
Then when you pull the OLD hose out ... it pulls the NEW hose through right behind it !
You can also use this trick to MEASURE the length of new hose you need .
