Back in I think it was '99, Wellcraft closed the Avon Park plant and moved that production to the re-opened Plant #1 (behind the Sarasota Airport on old 301, for those who know the area).  Small boats, little runabouts and that sort of thing.  They moved our line (225 and 250 Ospreys, 230 Cats, and 215 DCs) to plant 1 as well...

All those Avon Park people that transferred over said, "Geez, those are big boats!"  Well, in Plant #6, we were the "little boats", surrounded by 32 and 36 Martinuiques, 33 Coastals, 33, 38, and 43 Scarabs...it's all kinda relative...

Wonder how he gets 43-47 out of that boat with a 225?  I barely hit 40 with my 250 - must be my bottom paint?

Unless having the bracket and the engine running in clean water, etc, adds to better speed?

There are ways to get more speed, i was out one time by myself with about a 1/4 tank of gas and I can't remember why but both tops were off the boat and i got upper 40's, also had the tide pushing me though and the rpms were alot higher then 5100.

Thanks Aaron, 23 Explorer could be a option, looks like a nice boat with a lot of room in the back, only concern would be age factor, unless a guy could find one that is sound, not looking to do a  structural rebuild on the next one, got enough projects going in my shop at home. Like I said before, not ready yet, promised the misses I wouldn't get serious until I get rid of a equipment loan that is done in 8 months...but than again it doesn't hurt to peek around a little

You would be amazed at the amount of room there is in the back of my 230.  Compare it to even the 275 and my 230 has more room in the back - I've tied up beside all sizes of AS and it is amazing.  The longer boats have more cabin up front than mine though.  I've had 25 ft+ Grady's, Prolines, Makos, etc all comment on the room compared to theirs.  AS did some good design on this model.

The slightly smaller cabin does make the difference. While my 21 is exactly 2' shorter in the cockpit than Ricks, it is still enough to dance in. For me, the cabin is perfect for storing everything I kept in the coffin box on my CCP and frees up what the transom robbing CCP was hurting in...fishing spots.

That 23 "looks" in fair shape. You can get a good look at the transom and stringers in this particular model and it has that "straighter" style cabin that was popular in the 80s era XFs. You don't see as many of these models from the early 90s and this is the first bracketed 230 I've seen. Last year before the "your-a-peein' transom design.
They ride surprisingly well and still get you good and wet in a beam sea. but it has the helm enclosures :thumleft:

Too bad the perfect trailer was just sold.

Might be what you're looking for.

Rick  The more I look at the 230 on ebay the more I like it. Reminds me a lot of the early 80's Pursuit line...wide ars open in the back...  I don't have a need for a live well, don't fish with live bait over here, the live well on the 225 or 245 for me would just be wasted space in the back of the boat. When I start looking will probably have to expand my search area, not a lot of AS's in these parts , one thing I have noticed is the price of used boats in the south and east, heck of a lot cheaper than out here, the boat wing just picked up would probably start in the mid to high teens out here, maybe more. Heck I could pay a surveyor, and shipping and still be way ahead.  As far as a trailer for a boat, I put a new trailer under my boat about a year and a half ago, bought one that could handle between 22 to 25', kept my old trailer, figured when I am ready for a different boat and if it needs a trailer would sell my old boat with the old trailer.

Bill, when you're ready give a holler. Have a client that owns a big trucking company here, we could probably load it on one of his west coast runs for a reasonable rate.
