SWS did a boat test this month on a Cobia 217 with a Yamaha F150. They state the hull weight is 2,800 lbs which is probably close to the Osprey, give or take. Here are their results with 2 adults and full fuel (90 gals):RPM MPH GPH4,000 26.5 6.64,500 31.4 8.55,000 36.0 11.25,500 39.7 14.35,800 41.7 17.5You can also go to the Yamaha website and view test results that they did with various boat/motor combos, I'll see if I can dig up the link.I think this is it:http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/pr ... fbull.aspx
Trying to decide on power for my 1987 22.2 Osprey rebuild ..Considering a Yamaha F150 Four Stroke..Just wondering if anyone has the set up that could share some actual data...How does she get on plane (I will be installing trim tabs) ...cruising speed at what RPM's, fuel economy...If you had it to do over again would you still go with the Yamaha F150 or go up in HP? ...Thanks!!!
You guys are right about the F series yamaha's, talk about sluggish hole shot and zero torque. I ran a F250 on a 24ft bay boat during a fishing tournament. Heading in for the weigh in conditions had picked up a bit and I had a following sea with the tide running out at Gordons pass in Naples, It was nothing that I had not handled 100's of times in a much smaller 17ft flats boat even coming in through much bigger, rougher and faster moving passes like Boca Grande. The motor simply did not enough balls to keep the boat up on top of the waves and surf her in. She really badly wanted to get sideways and I thought several times we might be going overIts not about HP its all about torqueCapt matt
