Value of a '75 22ft Inboard
« on: January 17, 2012, 11:29:00 AM »
I'm looking at purchasing a 1975 22' inboard. I'm told this is a rare bird, but I don't know. What would be the value of one of these fully restored? This one has a V-8 and is currently in real rough condition.

$2500 with a decent shape dual axle.  If the boat's in rough shape, what kind of shape is the motor in?

you will never get your money back out of that boat,if you are going to restore it do it because you want to own a classic, not for an investment, good luck :salut:

There are no price guides or "Blue Books".
Restored or as is, it's only worth what one (think you) would actually pay.

Carbo,
Not to diminish what you want out of her, or what you want to put into her, but value is simply a perception...

You see these commercials all the time.  "And if you act now, we'll double your order, absolutely free!  A $40 value!"...to whom?  If I was stranded on a deserted island, and really needed a boat, what would the "value" of a $1,000,000 diamond ring be to me?  About squat...

Check the "Rebuild" forum, Thermal is in process of rebuilding a former 22-2 inboard.

A fiberglass 22-2 shell, with trap stringers intact, should run under 1K. More like 4 to 600 bucks.

Unless it has been dropped on concrete. It then becomes a disposal liability.

Inside joke.... pay no heed to that part whatsoever :thumright:

Welcome, kcarbo!!

Don't let the owner tell you its that rare, sure they did not make as many of them as outboard models but they are not that hard to find

Classic boats are worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them.  The 22-2 inboard is a sweet boat when done right, but remember the inboard model needs a special trailer and is NOT a skinny water boat.  If she's rough, you are talking under $1,000, hopefully with a trailer.  No trailer? Then the $400-$600 you've seen here might get it.  You could pay more if the engine is fresh, but you can buy a new small block these days for a lot less than a redeck/stringer job costs.   :thumleft:

People buy these boats out of a love for the looks and appeal of a classic, not to flip and make a profit.  You can save a lot of $$$ if you can do a lot of the work yourself and learn a lot about boats in the process.  My vote would be go buy that thing - make it a spring project and, as they said it Tin Cup, just go for it!

Folks,  My name is Kevin, and I've bought that '75 222 Flatback Inboard.  Paid $900 for the boat only. I'm in the market for a trailer, but not in a hurry because I've borrowed one for an indefinite time.  My plan is to do a keel-up restoration over then next two-three years.  I watched the boat for 5 years before I finally made the decision.

I've done this several times before with different boats, so I do know what I've gotten myself into.  But I'll be asking for a lot of advice and info from you all.

Congrats Kevin    BTW, the boat should be a 12 degree for that year, not FB (they stopped making them in '71/72).
