1982 Osprey 170 Refurbish project May 2010 thru April 2011
« on: January 14, 2012, 09:47:20 PM »
Hi My name is Mack (Barry) May
I'm the original owner of a 1982 Osprey 170.
This year February 2012 makes my 30th year of ownership. I have loved my boat since the first day I picked her up at a dealership in Miami.
I embarked on a refurbish project in May of 2010 and completed the project in April of 2011
I would like to share information on the project with other members of Classic Aquasport.
Many pictures were taken and descriptive information was added to most.
Since I basicly am a novice when it comes to refurbishing a boat, I relied heavily on information found on this site and various other blog sites and manufacturer sites as well.  I am sure mistakes were made, i.e.; I should have painted with a primer coat, but only time will tell if that will make a difference.
I have logged on to our "Classic Aquasport" site many times since joining and am very happy and proud to be a member of such a great group of Aquasport Owners.

Pete, have you ever thought of adding some teak to an Osprey?  I'd have some ideas...warm up that cockpit a bit...

You've got something to be proud of for sure and to know that you did it all yourself should make it feel even better.
I've got the same tasks in front of me on my 170 with the addition of replacing the sole and stringers too - so a complete gut.

Thank you all for the nice comments!

Capt. Bob, I went through my original paperwork and found that I purchased the boat and motor from a dealer by the name of "Boat Center" located on South Dixie Hwy.
Don't know if they are still in business, that was 30 years ago.
Paid $9852 for the rig.

The fact that 30 years later you are just know having to do this work says a lot about the boat but even more about how you've taken care of her  :thumleft:
