Boat Covers
« on: January 12, 2012, 10:51:39 AM »
I told the shrink wrap guy to wrap my boat the first week in November like I always do every year he is the only one that will do it while the boat is in the water. Usually by the 2nd or 3rd week it is done. This year I was getting the royal run around now its January called him boat still not done so with my low tolerance for B.S. I told him where to stick his shrinkwrap and the torch right after it. Anyway getting to the part of this story I really want you guys to hear I started looking for a cover I could use while the boat is in the slip. I decided on a Carver cover moat prices were near $900. I found a place in florida for $719 but would take 2 to 3 weeks to get. So kept looking found a place called CoverQuest in South Carolina, Iskoke with the girl there and she told me she could get me the same cover for $717 and have it in eight days then told me to hold on when she came back on the line she told me she told me she talked to Carver and for a $30 charge could sew it up in 2 days and ship it direct from the factory. That was monday I have just received it this morning. I just wanted to tell everybody about a company that goes out of there way to help a customer.

And that's what we like to hear!  One would think, in this economy, that more businesses would understand the value in great CS, both for the buyer, and for others to read about, which JUST might generate future sales...

That is a cool story.  :salut:
I think we should all contact this company, send a short email or phone call to let them know we heard about them, we appreciate the way they roll, and that they are now on our radar, in a positive way.

We have a really nice cover on our boat, and I can see how much it protects the boat. This cover won't last forever, and at some point we will need to replace it.  I am going to tell these folks that they are at the top of my list.

Having just purchased a Bimini top for my boat, I just wanted to add a little something.
While I certainly share the Forum's enthusiasm for a proper vendor during these (or any other) economic times there are a few details everyone should realize.

There are several vendors on the internet that sell boat covers, Bimini tops and assorted marine, auto, RV stuff.
Coverquest, along with Discount Bimini Tops, SavvyBoater, iBoats and others all offer Carver tops as well as one or two other brands. Many have different grades of material for the construction, especially when it comes to the cover.

In my search, I contacted each one and posed questions concerning build quality and material type. All these vendors were very helpful and I would have been happy to purchase from any one of them. I chose to purchase from SavvyBoater (located in Oregon) simply because they offered the best (ie lowest) price. The top (as well as the covers) all are constructed at the Carver plant in South Carolina. They are also shipped from there. I've spoken with them (Carver) and they too, were extremely helpful in working with me on my top needs. They were the reason I went with a production top rather than a site made. That and the fact that Tallahassee is not overrun with canvas craftsmen. All offer accelerated delivery ($30 seems the norm) and other than the difference in costs, all seem from first impressions to be good internet vendor sources.

This is not meant in any way to lower expectations of CoverQuest but rather make Forum members aware of several good venders out there and to remind everyone to do their homework before purchasing any item on the net.

Lastly, from DT's post, he also seem happy with the quality of the product as well as the service and that is my whole point. I too was pleasantly surprised with the quality of my Carver top and my conversations with their contacts. While Carver does not sell directly to the public, they still deal with you as if you were purchasing directly through them.

Well put Capt.Bob While I always do my homework before dealing with anyone all the venders I talked to were helpful and I probably would have purchased from any of them but CoverQuest was the only one that mentioned the expidited manufacture of the top the turn around was 4 days from order to delivery and the price was the lowest of all the venders.

I have today, April 10, 2013, put a detailed message on the subject of boat covers under the forum thread entitled "Console Cover", which you'll find in the forum category of "Aquasport Resources". If you're looking into a boat cover you will find useful information in my post since I researched the subject pretty thoroughly before I obtained my boat cover during February 2013.

If you're looking for a full boat cover, and at a reasonable price,  the short answer is to contact "Coverquest LLC" in Boiling Springs, SC and get them to send you one of the "Poly-Guard" breathable fabric covers that is made by Carver Industries, who makes "semi-custom" fit boat covers and sells those covers through Coverquest. The Poly-Guard cover carries a 5 year warranty and the fabric is excellent. The Coverquest people are extremely nice to deal with, very PR oriented. Their phone number is 864-699-9503. You can go to their website at - http://www.coverquest.com

But you'll find more info than this in my post under "Console Cover".
