New Switch Panel
« on: January 09, 2012, 03:51:51 PM »
Well I finally got in touch with Jake from Marine Connection and this beauty came by UPS today. Thanks to Flounderpounder,Glockdriver,Pete,Seabob, and anybody else I might have missed.I will replace the old one with this when the weather breaks. It's going to be in 30's all week.

Can anybody tell me where I can get the matching connectors so I can make it a plug in.What are these called? Are there different size pins? How about the main blue connector?

They could be Molex connectors.  Not the standard white ones we all know, but another one of their types/models.

I know Radio Shack sells various connectors and pins, so if you can't find the ones you need, you could always swap them out.  But this I will tell you Mark...GET RID OF THAT BIG RED CONNECTOR!!  It gave Wellcraft and Aquasport owners (and the company) nothing but trouble, they start to lose contact as they age.  Problem is you have a 6GA feed coming from the stern mated to a 10GA feeding the helm.  What I do is get a 6GA butt splice, then double over the 10GA to get a good crimp on the helm side.  Crimp, cover with heat shrink, and it will give you no problems... :thumleft:

Bob,
Would you keep the pin type connectors or just hardwire everything?

Mark, this is my personal opinion, after dealing with various connectors over the years.  I recommend Deutsch connectors, the parts are relatively cheap, but the crimper for the pins is like $250!  And it's only for use with Deutsch pins, nothing else.

So I go with hard wiring, leaving excess wire for a service loop should you need to repair something down the road.  A good crimper (mine's a Greenlee), some adhesive-lined heatshrink butt splices, and you're good to go...

Thanks Bob,I been looking all over the internet and can't find anything like them.It would have been nice to just plug everything in though.Less headaches I guess. But it looks like I might have to hard wire. It's freezing up here now so I'll have to wait.

I believe Bob's correct. They look like Molex to me. I installed this type on my motorcycle to wire accessories.

Bought them here.

There are a lot of pin and housing combinations. I didn't look for yours but I'd think you will find it. You probably already know but you purchase the pin size and housing and make what you need.

Good luck.

You guys are all getting close. Some of them are rectangular and some have like a triangle < on the one end.I need one end to be like oval c or round.

See how the tops part has a round over side.I've seen square and triangle but not round.Close but no cigar.
Thanks guys.
