How do you tell what year your boat was built in?
« on: March 12, 2006, 09:32:35 AM »
On the little plate on the transom the serial number is either 0077 or 0677.  Does anybody know if this gives any clue to the year it was built?
1971 19-1
They don\'t build \'em like they used to.

Being a pre-1972 boat, it doesn't have a hull identification nimber (HIN) which would tell you the build date.  The serial number which Aquasport assigned, I'd guess, was for warranty tracking.  Unfortunately no one, as yet, has been able to track down an Aquasport serial number list which would correlate S/N's to build dates.

I have the same situation with my 170... all I have is S/N C484.  My best estimate, based on details of the interior such as cleat locations, fuel tank set-up and other sundry items, places the boat around '70 or '72.    I don't know what state you are in but if you are in a "title state" maybe your boat title has the build date on it.

By '72 boats had to have a Hull ID # (HIN).  Does your boat have a 12 degree bottom or a flat bottom?
The 12 degree model started in '72 - FBs before that.

Some of the '72 models still had the old plates on them. A pic would help. Here is an example of a '60s plate

I have a question about this. So when my boat is ready to go, will I need to have a plate on it to be legal? It is a 1970.

Nope - they weren't required until 72 or later.
