Folding Splashwell Transom Gate 21' Explorer
« on: January 08, 2012, 05:38:19 PM »
What are the chances I could find an OE transom splashwell gate that would fit my 1999 215 Explorer?

Sure, I could make one out of starboard. But if I can get one with the latches, and the hinges, well, that would just make my frikking day.

Make one, Bob...

By the time you find one, you'll have another 100 hours on the boat...

Bob,
You're gonna have to run down the coast one day.  Pete brings his lunch, and he just lives up the road in Palm Bay...

How's that on the engine noise?  Work pretty good?

These old Yamahas are noisy :x
I'm inclined to believe that the enclosure increases that noise.
If I have the rear bimini top folded down and lying across the stern, it decreases considerably with the enclosure in place.

Good thing I'm just about deaf.

I agree they are noisy and with the back open it comes right into the boat. I thought that if you closed it in, like that, it'd be quieter.
I know if I zip in the aft eisen glass that goes across the back of the boat right in front of the engine the noise is reduced enough that we an talk at the helm while we're cruising.
Only thing I worry about is reducing the air the engine needs.

Not to worry.
It's water cooled and as far as intake does, the ATM pressure is the same on the back side of the cowling as the front.
I'm thinking about making a big ol' box to cover the whole damn thing up. Sort of an enclosed outboard.
