I totally agree with Fernando in the placement of the WP gauge, easily the most important gauge in your lineup after the tach.  I almost find a trim gauge useless with O/Bs as we basically trim by feel, and if we REALLY need to see where the motor is, we can just turn around.  I/Os?  Another story...

One of the pluses of the "newer" style Osprey console like Pete's was that the top half was re-designed to have an electronics flat directly below the gauge panel, allows you to flush mount all sorts of stuff.  Too bad it wasn't changed until the year after yours was built.  But the good thing about the 225/245/250 Ospreys was the swing up front seat which allowed all kinds of room to wire her up.  Even fell asleep in there one Sat morn after a particularly late Fri night!  I would absolutely love to get my hands on an Osprey of yours or Petes or Marcs vintage to play with her.  Would be like going back home...

Another gauge I strongly recommend is an hourmeter, and that can be mounted virtually anywhere, since it is only checked periodically as your maintenance interval starts to draw near.  On my buddy Marc's 224 Mako, I mounted it down low, still easily viewable, but saved space on the gauge panel...

The switch next to it is the totalizer reset switch for his Flo-Scan...

Here's a good one Mark.  In a boat plant, you hear all kinds of noises, many of them loud.  You get used to it, as you know what they are, don't even pay attention.  So one day, I'm sitting inside a console just like yours wiring it up, when I hear this pretty loud noise that is totally unfamiliar...and loud.  Came from the other side of the plant, from the area of the Scarab line.  Get out of the console, seems most others have noticed as well.  "Hmmm", says I, "gotta go check this out..."  Now, see this boat here?

A 43 Scarab, triple 502s or whatever, Bravo 1 drives.  It was hanging in the air, ready to be loaded on a trailer, when the spreader bar attached to the stern eyes broke...and the back end fell to the floor from about 6' in the air!  The starboard and center outdrives were basically broken clean off, they cushioned the blow to the hull bottom so not much finish work there...

That boat had to be de-rigged and scrapped due to the unknown structural issues that the stringers and transom probably suffered from the fall, not to mention scrapping about $35K in drives and transom assys...

OOPS!!!

I have some good ones from Stamas too...

Mark, I like the first choice with the water pressure gauge between the Speedo & Tach.

Nope.  No one was in charge of proof loading any lifting equipment.  When I was in aerospace, semi-annual proof loading was required, each hoist, boom, whatever had it's own cert plate, stamped by the metrology lab.  All proof loaded to 2 1/2 times their rated capacity.  You'd be surprised how much a boom bends when you throw 12.5K lbs on a 5K rated jib crane...

Hey Mark, I do have some of those Livorsi bezels.  The beveled ones tilt the gauge towards the helmsman...

Let me know if you are interested...

I just notice last night while I was looking at my gauges that the speedometer gauge needle is over the other side.I looked at pics of other gauges and it seems the needle should be on left side instead of right side.Do you think this gauge is damaged. There's pics of this gauge on this thread. Is there any way to check this without being on boat?

That's one fast piece of cardboard you got there, Mark!!  That is weird.  I can see a tach in that position until power is applied to it, but a speedo...

Try this.  Shoot a bit of compressed air into the nipple on the back side (not full blast, might want to choke back the air line), see if that budges the needle.  That's how the speedo works, with the water entering the pitot tube compressing the air column inside the hose...

Mark they make flat bezels as well, which won't change the angle of the gauge.
