Teak under Center Console
« on: January 03, 2012, 10:58:40 PM »
What do most of you use to replace the teak wood that is used under the center console of the smaller boats like the 170 I am working on. The teak can still be used with some restoration but there may be a better product to use now.

Thank you

Starboard would work great, although I would prefer the color almond to white.

When I redid my floor I made the trim out of 5/8" plywood with 45 degree edges, covered the wood in resin, stuck it on the new floor and glassed over it. Next I gelcoated and non-skidded (word?) the whole floor.  Then I mounted the console back on top of it.  VERY solid and no maintenance.  When I do my floor over again I will do the same.

I used "trex" decking material from Home Depot. Its composite and rot proof and easy to work with. I got the reddish color which looks really close to teak. worked well for me.
