Quote from: "Capt Matt"
Amazed how good the fishing was today in the cold with a flat line tide.
I don't know how people in the winter up north handle having to wear so many clothes to go outside.
Guess they just don't boat in winter. If I would have ended up in the water today with so many layers on I would have hit the bottom before I could undress to swim and bob to the surface.
Capt Matt

Don't know about the boys in the N.E., but out here in the PNW we look forward to fishing this time of year....... OK I know it is a lot colder over there then here................ As far as staying warm it's called layering. Insulated long johns , lots of wool, and ignorance. Actually have had 2 guys over the years fall out of the boat fishing in the winter time, wearing all the extra clothes must trap some air, they both stayed buoyant until we could pluck em out of the water.

Headed out this last Saturday, left the dock at 7:45, doesn't get light till then, temp mid 30s, raining, blowing 15 to 20 knots out of the east,
Perfect day for winter fishing, weather the pits but catching was good. Got our limit of 4 back home by 3;30

Had to take the gloves off for photo

Great job, a catch like that has to help you forget the cold for a little while.

That's a beautiful fish!  And as Scott pointed out, a good fish on the line get's that heart pumping, adrenaline flowing, and, viola, it's not cold anymore!

Nice catch  :salut:
Do you guys have a full wrap around the boat with heater inside?  I saw a lot of boats fishing the Columbia in Oregon doing that.

That fish is what we out here call a feeder Chinook. They spend all of their life cycle in the local waters just swimming around looking for food. Not huge this time of year but by far the best tasting Salmon you can put your hook to.

This time of year we keep the  canvas top and side curtains on. I have a drop curtain for the helm area but don't use it very much, just gets in the way. The way  I look at it is if I am out back in the elements all day running the kicker why keep everyone else comfy while I am freezing my butt off, at least they are out of the rain.
As far as a heater, the only one we use comes in a purple bag.  One thing nice about winter fishing out here this time of year you don't need to pack ice or even take a ice chest for that matter to keep your beer cold.

I get the cheap freezer/fridge affect out there
The boats I saw were actually anchored with poles out the back but all wrapped up (and it was raining too).

Business in the shop was a little slow week before last , told the guys on that Friday that they better hope for snow over the weekend

Woke up last Monday to find everything  had turned green  over night    ...... Auto body guys wish come true......

But as my mom always told me....Be Careful What you Wish For......

By 9:30 am on Wednesday temp was down to 7 degrees , N.E. wind gusting to 60 mph,

Looks like the AS won't get out for a while, neighbor yesterday dug out our driveway wide enough for a pickup, but forgot about the width of my boat trailer
