Stern oil filler cap
« on: December 27, 2011, 06:19:43 PM »
I like to sit in the back (stern/transom) section of the boat to fish but there is the oil filler cap and this other part (just removed this afternoon)

I leave the other corner for my uncle so he can fish and I take this other side but I like to be comfortable.
Is there any option for this oil filler cap?, I have seen some Aqua models with the oil cap mounted in the back with an opening but my best option will be a flush mount cap I think..

This is my personal opinion, and may not be agreed with.  However... Every boat I have had with an external oil fill I have removed.  I don't trust them, too much chance to get water in the oil.  If it was mine, I would remove and put a nice stainless rod holder in there for trolling a shotgun line.  I buy bulk oil in my my 5 gallon bucket and fill with this http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsea ... +pail+pump

I'm no expert (and it will probably show) but the big black thing looks like the lower mount for a downrigger.
Not really in the right spot with that transom but.....

As far as the oil fill, a flush mount (just like your fuel fill) could work.
Never gave the water a thought with either cap but water entry is possible and needs to be watched.

Does it have a compass in the stock?

Thanks Scott. :thumleft:

Thank you folks for your prompt response..
flounderpounder225, I share your idea to put in the rod holder and use the pail pump.
Pete's oil cap looks good like that, gives you a cleaner stern to sit down and fish...specially for yellow tails, :D ,

Will keep the downrigger mount for a "far away" future owner or maybe I will learn how to use and will install back on, I have all the trolling gears but never use cause I dont know how to :(

Does anyone knows where can I get a clear livewell box door cover, the PO used the door to cut the bait and it looks pretty bad..

I'm sure a plastic fabricator or a glass shop could replicate you one or you could try sanding the original starboard one smooth :salut:

Why not then??

How about something like one of these to replace the existing one. Has to be easier on the bottom. Hopefully you can get one to fit the existing hole and fill hose.

If you don't want that cumbersome old downrigger mount hanging around and taking up space   let me know.  I have two 625 fathom master downriggers and no mounts, I left them on my Chris craft when I sold her.  PM me if you are interested.  Thanks
