Input for 1995 222 Aquasport Express Fisherman Center Consol
« on: December 21, 2011, 12:02:34 PM »
Hi Guys,
I just joined this site because I'm interested in an Aquasport 222...I have had larger offshore boats most of my boating life and have always admired the beautiful lines of the Aquasport. I am retired now living in the Florida Keys and getting out of the large offshore rig and looking for an Aquasport 222... I think this is the perfect boat for me in  the Keys..I'm looking at one now, it is a 1995 222 Aquasport Express Fisherman CC with out the engine, which is fine, I have a Yamaha 150 four stroke, that I hope will be fine for this boat....I was hoping someone was familar with the 1995  222 Aquasport (I know it's not that old) and could give me their input on this model..Is it a good hull or are the older ones better?  I have not seen this boat yet, but talked to the Seller, said it had a soft area around the console, but otherwise was in pretty good shape..I was thinking about fixing the soft area and cosmetic repairs any having it painted with alwgrip and have a nice rig..Am I on the right track ???  Thanks Guys ..

Don't know much about that hull, but there are a few folks here with good knowledge of late model ASs!  Welcome...

The 222 Express Fisherman (or XF) is a classic walk-around-cuddy (WAC) design that started out back in the late 70's with Aquasport.  The later models came as Genmar combined Aquasport with Welcraft and shared hulls.

How about some pics?

The question I have is did they make a XF in '95 or had the Explorer model taken over by then?  I'm thinking late 80s was the end of that line and then the "Walk Around" came about - then the Explorer.
If you look in the photo gallery and click on "all models" there is a '92 model year catalog and it doesn't mention XF then but it does in the '84 brochure.
Could it be a '85?

I will try to post some pictures of this boat..It is definately a Center Console..I thought it was odd to call it an Express, but that's how he is advertising  this boat as an "222 Express Fisherman"..it sounds like this is not the right model name for this boat, maybe I can find a brochure for 1995 and identify it correctly..It does have the 2 tone grey and white colors of the newer aquasports..What are your opinions of the mid 90's Aquasports boats compared to the earlier models...better..worse..or about the same ?  Thanks again and I'l try to get some photos..

I believe the XF (eXpress Fisherman) walk around cuddy stopped being built in 1989 and the Explorer line of walk around cuddy took over...  So if it is a Center Console then it must be a CCP.

The 1995 center console would be an Osprey and it would likely be a 225 model, not a 222.  It has a fiberglass hull, is 22.5 feet long and 102 inches wide at the widest point. The boat weighs approximately 3100 pounds with an empty fuel tank and without any gear or passengers. The maximum horsepower listed for this outboard boat is 300 hp.

Do you have the HIN?  That would confirm the year manufactured.

A 150 would be adequate on this boat, but a 200 or more would be preferred.

If it is, then it's not a 95 Express Fisherman (a 95 model would be an Explorer) but rather an 87 Osprey (CC) as indicated by the color but more importantly the HIN.

Not even close and definitely no cigar.

Those specs are for a 95 - the HIN is for a 1987 model, and the photos look more like a late 80s than a 95.  The specs for an 87 Osprey 222 would be:
Length:  22' 2"
Beam:  7' 11"
Draft:  9"
Max. HP:  235
Fuel tank:  70 gal.
Transom:  25"
Dry weight:  1800 lbs.
Capacity:  1850 lbs.
Deadrise:  12 degrees

Thx again  Capt John...Yes I see the last 2 numbers of the HIn number are 87...This boat is for sale by a broker as you probably saw...His information was a little off on this boat.."1995 222 Express Fisherman he says..lol.." I'm glad I came on this site..you guys were very helpful.
Is this boat similar to your 1980 22.2 ? How do you like your boat..Is the deck fiberglass and wood or foam core ? Thz again..
