Yamaha Oil Tank Brackets...the fix...

Any of you guys that have 2S Yammis, you know the oil tank brackets rust an fall apart as soon as you look them.  Soooooo, I suggested to my customer that he go with the SS ones made by Artec Industries.  Here's a pic of the old, which I'm sure you guys have seen before...



Actually, not in too bad a shape, compared to some I've seen.  Here's a pic of the Artecs...



All Stainless Steel, funny thing is, if you can find them, the Yam brackets are $123 a piece, the Artecs are $109 a piece...

Just some food for thought out there for those who want something different then the Yamaha pieces of crap...

The Mercury ones are not any better.  I had our Aluminum Fabricator make me one from aluminum, he went above and beyond anything I was expecting.  And best of all, he didn't charge me a thing.

I may look into those after my stock ones completely rot away.  When I took mine out recently to install in the new boat, one of the corners & part of the back was pretty much rusted away.  Sanded it down some & rattle canned it a little bit.  I wasn't trying to save the bracket by any means.  Maybe it will buy me two years before I buy the Artec bracket.

Those are real nice!

When I repowered my old 25' Grady w/ a pair of used 200 OX66s, I chose to stick with the OEM brackets since they were still in serviceable condition.  But I sanded down any existing scratches/rust spots and then spot primed and painted w/ Rustoelem.  Before mounting them, I stuck some plastic fenders washers to the bottom of each w/ 4200 to keep them up off the deck.





I also found some large SS screws with pretty low profile heads in my screw collection at home.  The heads were low enough to allow me to get another plastic washer under each so the paint woudn't get damaged when I tightened them down.

Brian, nice job, looks like yours were still worth being "saved".  I replaced some that literally fell apart in my hands when I pulled them out...
