Aquasport 245 Explorer wiring questions
« on: December 06, 2011, 09:04:39 PM »
I pulled my Humminbird 788ci HD Combo Marine GPS Navigator System off my previous boat and want to install it in my new explorer.  I am not new to installing marine boating systems, but am to this type of walk-around boat.  I had a friend help me mount the transducer to the stern.  He is familiar with working with fiberglass.

I need to run the transducer line and the power cable to the steering console.  Will this be a major project for me to undertake?  I am unsure of the route to take with the wire?  I can run it through the middle of the boat, but where should take the next step?  Any help and advice would be appreciated.

I know how to mount the unit, wire the GPS, and power it.  I just need to get the cables from the center of the boat to the console.  I am familiar with the dash board and the wiring behind it.  I spent last weekend installing a new stereo/CD player.  The PO had the old stereo stolen when it was moored at the marina.

Side question --  What is the best product to clean the decking, fish box, and cabin?  I have been told DAWN is a great product.  Thoughts?

Thanks.  AC

Run the transducer wire through the engine wiring tube in back then down by where the batteries are on the starboard side is a rigging tube that runs up by the helm, run both tru that, you will have to remove the cabin wall behind the helm to get to it on that end but it's not hard, the hardest part is fishing the wire tru that tube. :salut:

I agree with the Dawn, use it myself.

Well done, Scott!  It's the 45 degree elbow that turns the rigging upward that causes the problems...I think it was a 45, not a 90...

I was finally able to work on the wiring project.  There was good news.  The P/O must have put a pull rope between the console and stern.  That was a great help.  Bad news . . . the transducer wire was not long enough for the job.  I will have to get a cable extender.  I really do not want to splice into this particular wire, but I feel better be safe for this particular project.

Thanks for y'alls help.

Hey guys, I'll be doing this on our 225 in the next few weeks. Where is the usual penetration point in the transom for the Tducer cable. I'm thinking near the ducer with some 5200 to seal it?
Thanks,
Richard

Richard,
This is how I did a standard ducer and side scan ducer on a customers Cape Horn...

He has twins, so the ducers are centered around the keel.  With a single, you want to be about 18" to starboard of the keel...

I ran mine in through the drain hole in the splash well then into the rigging tube, since i'm on my 4-5 th bottom machine it makes it easy that way plus i hate putting holes in a boat.
