Question 22' or 24'
« on: December 06, 2011, 01:50:05 PM »
Has anyone ever rebuilt a 24' aquasport? Besides that it is 2' longer are there any other reasons to go from a 22' to a 24'? I literally just got my 222 and now am thinking about starting a 24. Does anyone think that is a bad idea and why?

Bigger boat, bigger power needed, bigger gas bill
Neither one is a offshore boat though a 24 should handle sea's a little better.

Is the 22 a flatback?
If not the 22-2 and 24 draw about the same about of water for bay fishing.

Yes it is a closed transom and I would transfer my motor from my 222 to the 24. It's at 250 HO E-Tec. I know the v looks a bit deeper but is the beam any different?

I'm not sure if there is a difference in the beam of the too hulls. The mid 70's hulls had less of a V than the 80's models. A 250 will push either one fine.
The flatback aquasports was the first aquasport made and only in production from 1967-71 "Flatback" refers to the deadrise of 0 degree's not a full transom. Think of how the bottom of a Carolina skiff looks and that is what a flatback looks like.  The zero deadrise gives it shallow draft and makes them very stable making them a great choice for a tower. Proline made a 24 flatback till the mid to late 80's

The 22 foot and 24 foot CCPs have same beam.  According to specs, the 24 footer draws 12" of water and the 22 footer draws 10" - The older Sea Hunter 24 footer is a different hull than the CCPs.

I considered the same thing part way through my rebuild. Figured I could finish my 222 and sell it for the 24 seahunter rebuild... love that boat.  But, in all reality its still not a great offshore boat and an even worse inshore boat than the 222.  I'd say you lose more on the inshore side than you gain on the offshore ability. The 24 model has more beam, and more draft.  My plan is to finish my 222 and pickup a bertram 25 for an offshore rig.  If you can afford two boats I'd get a dedicated offshore boat and an inshore boat.
