Wanted-Leaning Post Livewell and Hatches
« on: December 01, 2011, 01:34:33 PM »
Looking for a leaning post livewell for my rebuild.  I am seriously looking at the Hammer Head but haven't decided yet.  (No offense towards Hammer Head.  They clearly do a great job and I don't doubt the quality in any way).  But i do want to look at a couple of different configurations before to get one.  Anyone have a good idea on how i may be able to see different set ups?  Used or new, it doesn't matter.

I'm also going to be putting in some in deck storage and will need to have hatches made for them.  At them moment I don't have exact dimensions but I will have them this week.  Does anyone make hatches to size?  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Call Chris at Coast II Coast In Port Richey  727-244-5492  He builds a nice livewell at a fraction of the price of Hammerhead.

IMHO a leaning post is just not needed. The livewell itself can be leaned on, fulfilling both needs. I can post photos of my livewell if you like.

If you need OEM casting deck hatches, just let me know. They will be available in January.

For in-deck hatches, Captain Bob and I are very pleased with the quality and price of these:

Thanks guys.  I'll be calling everyone as soon as I get a chance.  I like the prices.  Obviously going for the best deal.  I'd prefer one about that size but i'd also like to see if I could find one that allows me to sit on the leaning post and still have someone get into the well without having to have a flip up seat.

Wow, that is a silly low price. I spend over $110 just on the lid and Orcas hinges for the livewells that I have. With 1708 biax and certified resin and gelcoat, I couldn't cover costs of labor and materials at $375. At that price, make sure it is a cash and carry deal.

I know Trevor. I just don't know how he can build those wells so inexpensively. Even with 24oz roving, it is still hard to break even at $375.

HIFLUTIN,

Thanks, searched for a link.  I love these hulls, regardless of who/how/where.

Although there isn't a builder website...found an old, interesting thread on THT, with commentary from current CA members:

http://www.thehulltruth.com/boats-sale- ... -sold.html

And with regard to the livewell pricing: maybe he made a run of say a dozen a few years back when demand was good. And now, with money being what money is...just needs cash flow.

When a biz gets strapped for cash...you cash out, at any price. I'm experienced there.

But...you get what you pay for. If I had to do it again...would spend a few hundred more and go with the product I posted earlier. When the less expensive TB livewell I bought and had shipped up here starts spitting water on my rear end and the rear ends of my friends  on a pretty day....the extra spent on quality gaskets, heavy lids, 316 stainless offset hinges, latches etc. would have paid out 10X over the course of ownership.

I finally got mine installed.
It is indeed a lot of hatch for the money and if you can live with anything other than bright white, the beige is very easy on the eye. :thumleft:

If you plan on buying pre made deck hatches get the size of hatch before you cut the openings.
Are you going with plastic hatches or Fiberglass with drain channels?
Fiberglass is way more money,  plastic hatches don't last long on the deck in the Florida sun.

Good deal CB.

I like the color too. They call it beige, but it is really a soft antique white. And as you say, easy on the eyes.

Trevor is a good guy, always about making a buck though lol. I've seen a bunch of these livewells that he makes and they are not bad quality compared to the price. I plan on buying one from him once my boat is ready (at an even lower price  :D ). I agree that its hard to imagine he's making any money off of them though, as Eugene stated that the price in acrylic and hardware itself is over $100 (I work for the shop that makes the acrlyic lids, well, I myself actually made all of them hah).
