Something stupid I thought yall might find kind of cool

For my manufacturing processes class at the University of Tennessee, we had to perform a CNC milling project as our lab.  We were given a 3.5" X 2.0" block of plastic to mill whatever we wanted into it.  You first had to create a model in Autodesk Inventor, then upload it to a program called Surfcam to create a cutting path a code, finally I put the code into the computer connected to our Denford Mill.  After that the mill did the rest.  My original model I created was the aquasport logo:



However, we were limited to a 1/8" drill dit, so I was unable to cut all the small crevices out.  I needed a 1/32" bit to successfully mill out the aquasport logo.  I created a new model with the 22-2 numbers from one of the advertisements here, and I was able to mill that model out.  Here is the finished product:



I was thinking I could mount it on the console & throw two LEDs in it, so it gets lit up at night.

I'm pretty sure the stainless steel aquasport logos that a few members have on here were made this way.  Just create a part file using CAD or inventor, convert it into a code, fire up the expensive milling machine, and you can make virtually anything!

I don't think I have had an engineering class yet in my 3.5 years that hasn't had some sort of new technology incorporated into it.

I'm sure I could make the 210 WAC.  I was about to make a file for the 19-6 for fun.  

Next time, I want to make the 22-2's out of stainless steel & completely cut them out.  They would look pretty sharp on each side of the boat.

That is just totally awesome!  I understand the process, but I don't know the code, and really don't care to at this point in life, that's what we have guys like you for!!

Your're doing excellent work, keep it up and enjoy!  If I was 30 years younger, I'd be doing the same thing...

And would venture to guess that your effort was the only one to feature a famous boat logo.
