I guess i'm lucky. My wife, can't stand OWN. But I'm still building a 16 x 20 building, with a right angle pourch. I'm building it behind my other building, in the woods. its going to have a 5000 btu air condistioner and a pot belly stove. I'm using the best excuse I've got. It's going to be my fly tying room. my wife, doesn't like all the fur and feathers flying all over the house. Sooooo she thinks me putting a building up to tie flies in. Is just the place for me. bwahahahaha

saltfly, good news...no OWN :thumright:

To custom build you're own fine cave, nice-sized like that, with heat and air...good for you.

Wish had an acre or two or more as some of the members for cave construction...but ain't shakin'.

Nevertheless...Congrats, keep us informed. Am considering a way out...involving a nice Christmas present for her :santa:

Thanks saltfly.

Not unless you move 20 miles inland...so what would be that "nice Christmas present"...jewelry?

And Walt, I'll have a building like that... :salut:

An old friend of mine from NC actually made a man-cave... well, it was underground anyway.  He bought an old junked school bus from a junk-yard, stripped the interior, sealed it up and buried it in his backyard.  Turned the interior into a liveable space, and had a cellar type staircase above ground that led into passenger loading door.  You'd never know it was there unless he showed you.

If anything, its a cheap solution to common problem ...

my niece's husband is building what they call the GarageMahal.  Hell, the wife would not see me unless she came looking for me.

It would be nice to put roll up doors on each side and just pull your boats in without having to back up.

Hey guys sorry for taking so long getting back.. Grand and bob.  Yea I’m looking forward to getting started. But I first have to finish my garage. I’m insulating and putting up dry wall. So I can heat the sob.  I need to be able to get my 19-6 in their to make a few changes. gets to dam cold up here in the winter to work in the drive way. As for the room to build. We lucked out years ago, once we decided that we wanted to live in Delaware. We picked up 5 acres of wooded land 3 miles as the crow flies from the beach.  People keep stopping buy seeing if I want to sell. I tell them hell no. Nearest house to us is 500 ft up the road and 750 ft down the road. there is a big farm that is still being farmed behind us and 65 acres of woods on the other side of the road. That the owner isn’t going to sell. He said when he retires. He’s going to build a house right in the middle of it, so no one will bother him bwahaha. I told him what do you want to bet, they still will find their way back there. Just to knock on his door and ask him if he wants  to sell. Bwahahaha We lived on a small lot for  all our lives and didn’t want to live their in retirement. Plus Maryland just costs to much in tax’s. Small lot which was only 50 ft x 125 ft was $2000 a year in property tax’s but was only 4 miles from work. Here its around $600 for all 5 acres. So do I feel lucky, You bet.    :thumright:

Good stuff guys! Keep the ideas coming, for the benefit of needy cavemen everywhere :salut:

Jess, the underground school bus idea is deluxe. If I didn't have septic lines all over the back yard, that could be a really neat thing to go with. Heck, if it were buried deep enough...it would stay 65 degrees inside year-round.

I can remember as a kid in the early sixties playing in the neighbors fallout shelters. They were all underground, stocked with all kinds of government supplied rations, water, gas masks etc. Serious stuff, but to us kids, a fun place to play when no one was looking.

Man under ground. That would be great. The only problem I would have, is it would float right up out of the ground. With the high water table we have in the winter.  :thumright:
