17 factory CC was a little wide ?

Have my 17 apart & have a ? for any other 17 owners on if the thought that the factory CC was a little wide. The CC Iam working on is stripped now & It looks like I could "fairly easily" make it narrow.We fish alot & I know room can be an issue on these boats & would it be worth the time.
