« on: October 29, 2011, 11:56:36 PM »
Hi there, I've recently purchased a AS 196 (supposedly), however the title reads 19'1. The vin/ID number is: FLZ528050471, can someone please tell me what I have? Thanks

Per the CG MIC code...http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic1 ... Z&sort=mic

FLZ is "Florida Homemade Boats"...in other words, you don't have an official AS HIN on your hull...

Interesting, what characteristics would set the 196 off from the 191?

Maybe just the camera angle but the bow lift strakes look higher up and further back than a 72' and up 19-6. There were no lift strakes on a 19-1 if memory serves. They look somewhat similar to a Seacraft location but the bow entry says AS. The bow entry and sheer line look like a 12 degree 19-6. As Rick says; more pics of the interior forward and aft and a transom end view may help solve the puzzle. Very cool!

FLZ probably means it has been rebuilt and a new HIN used.  This looks somewhat like a post-73 Osprey (12 degree deadrise) model with the lifting strakes up front.  Those were not there in the flatback (pre-73) models.  However, somehow the lines don't look right from the pic.  This could be one of the many Aquasport knock-offs that were made in the 70s and 80s.  Post some more pics and let's see what she is!

Don't frett Ali,

Some of the knock offs actually had improvements over the original design if in fact you have one. It make actually self bail with moderate engine weight. The downside would be if they used a wood stringer grid instead of the glass trapazoid no wood design which worked well except for the foam water intrusion issue which ultimately results in having to rebuild or re foam the stringers anyway. Atleast by the paint job, someone at sometime thought enough to invest some money in her. Bottomline, even if it isn't a true AS it still may have the attributes and she has the looks of a 19-6. There are at least 5 or 6 knock offs (copies) or more that are sold today for major bucks. The pictures will tell the story.

It is most likely a 19-1, I really don't think it's a knockoff.  The 19-1's were, according to what this forum has gathered, manufactured before a HIN was required, so a "Florida Homemade Boats" HIN on this boat, if you have a HIN at all, makes sense.  The console looks to be that of an Aquasport, and the lines look like a 19-1.

What appears to be a lifting strake in the picture is actually where the "pad" (unique to the 19-1) extends to the bow.

The pad-

Here's some pics of a 19-1 with the pad extending almost to the bow-

These pictures were pulled from Garrett's 19-1 rebuild thread, lots more good pictures of the 19-1 in this thread-

Hope this helps.

Yup, that's why we asked for pics of the rear.

My thinking is the view of the bow on a 19-1 is also different vs. the view of the bow on a 19-6, so I thought photos of the bow of a 19-1 would be helpful in the meantime.  Though, a photo of the pad at the stern would be a sure indicator of course.

I looked over Jesse's pictures and you may have a real 19-1, I did not realize the little pad runs all the way up towards the bow in the form of little strakes tucked up underneath. One look at the outside end view of the transom will get us pointed the right way.
