« on: October 20, 2011, 11:03:51 AM »
Im a pround owner of a 1984 AQUASPORT 222 CCP
Overall the boat is in good shape ive already had it in the water twice
Boat has a 1984 Mercury BlackMax 175 great compression 120 low 131 highest

with the boat
1. Motor Runs Good
2. BRAND NEW TRAILER tandem axle
3. Nice T Top
4. Hull is nice and solid

BADS
1. Gas tank pickup clogged so must be dirty
2. Front Floor is solf and rotten
3. I dislike the splashwell area
4. Teak is in very bad condition
5. Needs paint inside and out

ive already taken the gas tank cover off to find it to weigh alot!!! I have cut the front floor out last night, so to say the least this is gonna be a fun project.
Im very glad i found this site and all the great information on here about these classic Aquasports.

Welcome aboard Andy. :salut:

Classic 84 concerns.

Do you have the coffin (fish box)?
Looks like factory style fuel tank straps. I may loose money but I'd bet it's time for a new tank.
Batteries moved under console?

Good luck. :thumleft:

Welcome Andy
I know what you mean about the splash well. I had the same one in my 79 222 FF. Took up a lot of room. I had mine shortened up. Added a lot more floor space in the aft without it.

I never could understand that huge splashwell either; other than it was meant to accomodate 1 or 2 in line 6 Mercs to allow for cowling clearance when tilted all the way up.

That's a strong assumption. :thumleft:

The widened cut out would accommodate twins. The battery location space lost by the additional cut could be accounted for with the battery boxes  now placed in the reshaped motor well and space for a live well now existed.  :|

Just a guess but it seems logical with the desire for twin power configuration.

Yes i am assuming i will need a new tank aswell (i really dont want to spend 700)

And my boat only came with one battery and it is below the console.

the front of my boat is open all they way so i do not have the coffin box that sits on top. but my boat does have a under deck storage area about 3 feet long. there is a drain that comes up right before the console. (id like a livewell there but i really dont want to be soaked by the time i make it to the fishing spot).

My thoughts were to remove the stupid splashwell and make a livewell there.

give me some ideas!

Welcome aboard Andrew

The drain that you have pointed out is the drain for the coffin box and the thru hull on the starboard side is for the discharge.  As you have seen, the area under the coffin box is hollow and you should be able to see down to the keel.  I would first double check that a hose is attached to that drain and it does lead to the overboard discharge.  You don't want water going down that drain into the hull.

The CCP is a great boat.  You should be happy with it once you get her like you want her.

You will spend at least that on a new tank - more if you go with some suppliers - call Phil at Alloy Metal Works and see what he can do for you.

OK - the battery has been moved.  However, you really need 2 batts on this boat

This area is not a good choice for a livewell.  Too much bouncing when underway.  Look around and you might find a replacement coffin (Captain Bob?) - or you could just put a cooler in fron to fhte console.

My thoughts were to remove the stupid splashwell and make a livewell there.

Actually the big splashwell will fit 2 V-6 Mercs or twin V-4 OMCs.  One popular power option was twin 115-130 OMCs - those V-4 motors are wide and need the space.  If'n I was to repower, I would strongly consider twin 125 Optis.

That boat of yours would be the heat with twin 125 Opti's.

Fitz reported 3 days ago that his 12 degree 22-2 got up and ran 28mph on the single starboard engine (115 Merc) ...gotta like that.

I'd be real surprised if a single 75 doesn't plane mine after the synthetic rebuild.

Two different animals, the 22-2's and the 222 CCP's....nevertheless, even though the CCP"s have a 20 degree transom deadrise...they still plane easily. Saw that again last weekend with your boat, and this summer and fall with JD's.

Twin 125's would be awesome but unfortunatley i would need to win the lottery. too many projects and not enought $$$. Im currently rebuilding my jeep cj7 and working on the boat, so its a challenge to fund them both. Ive already sanken 11grand into my toy jeep... Just Empty Every Pocket. But hey you only live once and might aswell enjoy the short time we all have here.

Hopefully tommorow i will finish demoing the floor all the way. (will take some good daylight pictures)  Im unsure weather or not i should cut and bring up the foam on the sides of the stringers on the outsides. if feels nice and dry on top. but the last thing i want to do is cover up something wet. what do you guys think?

Does anyone on here have some decent plans for making a leaning post/ livewell?
