are you referring to the rod holders that run the length of the gunwale?
if so you can make them out of boat board or teak with a jigsaw and a router

I'm about to mount a set of TACO horizontal rod holders (made out of Starboard) in my '71/72 170. I have a pair of two-rod and a pair of three-rod holders and both fit in the space, but the in-wall openings on my boat, which look like yours but have that white, textured plastic-coated-metal trim material on the edges (anyone have a cheap source for that trim material? I need about 7 feet of it to trim the anchor locker as well as the toe rail and radio access areas on the helm...) look like they may be a bit narrower than yours from top to bottom. When I temporarily placed the two sizes of racks in the compartments to test for location, I found that there really isn't enough room height-wise to comfortably fit three rods and reels in the three-rung holder though. The rack fit but the uppermost rungs for rods was not fully accessible -- at least at the end of the in-wall opening that was smaller height-wise than the other. I may stick with the two-rung rack on one side and see how that works. It also appears that the compartments are not 'deep' enough width-wise to keep the reel handles from jutting out where you can bang your legs on/break them as you walk by. My 170 doesn't appear to have ever had rod racks in either side, which seems like a waste of space -- but the dimensions of the in-wall compartments may be why.  Were in-wall rod racks an option on the 170?

Its actually called windlace I believe. Was popular with old cars for trim. Try googling it and see what you get

The biggest problem with space is posed by spinning reels.  Conventionals (bait casters, levelwinds, etc.) work pretty well.
