FL Aquasport Gathering Fall 2011

Um, what if I showed up in a Bayliner    ...would I be treated like a redheaded stepchild?  I may not have an Aquasport by then...the way it's looking.

I think we could let you in this time, you might have to anchor off  away from us and swim over

I totally understand. If I owned a gorgous Aquasport like some I've seen on here, I certainly wouldn't want some loser in an old Bayliner ( ) getting too close to me either.  I've lurked on here quite a while and really admire the old '73 - '79 22-2's.  I was determined to get one....real soon.  As luck would have it, I stumbled across a deal of a lifetime on a new boat during the last couple of days.  I hope to pick it up this Saturday.  It's not an Aquasport unfortunately...but it's Waaaay better than the Bayliner!

    Welcome ( me, of three months welcoming...jeez   ) and I sure hope you get to attend the gathering... I'm way too far away and can only enjoy through the photos of you folks that post photos.  So I hope you get to roll in there with your new acquisition.

    Which leads me to two questions: 1)  What is the great deal you are about to pounce on? I am all curiosity... and 2) do you get affected by red tide in your part of FL?  I'm asking, in that I am considering possible retirement locations and I need to learn more about red tide, and what locals are impacted.  I don't seem to remember it occurring along the Space Coast where I raised from a young'un.

As a kid, I had the benefit (growing up in Chicago) of one set of grandparents retiring to Sarasota, the other set to Lauderdale.  East and west coasts.  Plus living in O-Town for quite a while after I moved down here.  Never did I see red tide on the Atlantic side, experienced it (you have to experience it) many, many times on the gulf side.  

The 2 bodies of water are vastly different, the natural dynamics of the Atlantic Ocean, IMO, preclude the development of the algae blooms that precipitate red tide.  In comparison to each other, the gulf is a much more stagnent, much warmer, much more conducive breeding ground for bioorganisms such as red tide.  Kinda like a really big petri dish, with the right conditions for chit to grow in...

I mean, we have oxygen depleted zones in the gulf, yet the Atlantic doesn't...there's a reason...

I don't think I could compete with commercial mullet fishermen when it comes to throwin a castnet.

I bought this.....2011 22' Angler Grande Bay.  Yes we get the red tide on the Gulf Coast as said above.  There's good and bad about the East and West FL coast....ya have to pick your poison.  Yea you're pretty far away being in California!

As of now the weather is looking good for next week and my neighbor said no red tide in Boca

That's great news - seems the usual fronts are dropping through now and winds are out of some N direction.
