What size prop for do you use for your 83 200XF Walkaround?
« on: October 04, 2011, 08:00:48 AM »
I recently picked up a 1983 Aquasport 200XF. I am currently having it repowered by one of the members with a rebuilt 1988 Evinrude 150. I know props can be a real pain, but what prop do you guys use for your 20' powered by a 150? All suggestions are great as a starting reference point. I can go ahead and tune size/pitch etc. later on. Thank you all in advance for your help.

Wow!!! Another 83 year model!!! Not too many of us around. Welcome aboard. My 222 Osprey with a 94 175 Johnson has a 14.5  X 19. I also have a 15 X 17 that I have not tried yet. The 14 X19 gets my hull out of the hole really well. Its no speed demon but is very reactive to input. As a starting point I would try the 15 X17 then see what RPMs you get and speed, then go from there. Please figure out how to post pics as I for one would love to see your 83 hull! Once you get performance data there are formulas you can use to get your prop slip. I know Wingtime has the same hull and I am sure he can throw his input into this discussion.

After you get it set up to your needs/style, post your results to the above thread in the Resource forum.

Thanks and welcome aboard. :salut:

Welcome aboard Halfwaked!  Another 200XF  Cool!  Lets see some pics!  I have a 200 HP on my XF but I have a 15" x 17" pitch on my boat.  The best thing is if you can get a loaner prop to start out with and see what your WOT RPMS are.  I'm thinking maybe a 16" pitch to start out with.

The XF has a deep-V hull that is a little harder to plane than the Osprey semi-V.  I think a 15x17 four blade stainless would be a pretty good fit for a 200XF with a 150 JohnnyRude.  As others have said, you will want to try out a prop or two before you finalize, but I think you will end up pretty close to a 15x17 and the four blade will give you a better hole shot with the 150.

I wanted to thank everyone again for there recommendations. 15x17 it is! Boat runs great, right onto plane! Thanks to Kaptain Koz of this site, and his perfectionist fabricating skills, for the installation of my newly rebuilt 1988 evinrude 150 that he rebuilt himself recently. Looking forward to future projects on the site. Next stop, custom hardtop. Pictures to follow tomorrow. Wanted to wash her nice first after the new transplant. Thanks again for the recommendations everyone.

With all due respect, it probably is on your end so here's some help. To your credit, this Forum does have a hangup on image posting until you understand its bad habits. Posting to the Photo Gallery is still negative function at this time.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3366

Here's additional help after PH is set up and the Forum still refuses to cooperate. :x

Now, once you understand how Photo Bucket works and you still can't post pics, try this.
Read steps carefully.

1: Go to your Bucket account (you need one to post photos on this forum), open and double click on a photo you have downloaded to the site.

2. Place cursor on the top left of photo, tool bar will appear, place cursor on EDIT then click on RESIZE

3. In a few moments a new window will open (call it the re-size window) with your photo and a tool bar above it.
Note the current photo size in the tool bar.Since this site (Classic Aquasport) limits posted photos to 800 pix wide X 600 pix long you must re-size it in order to post it, if it is larger than that. So.....

4. Photo Bucket has preset sizes you can use. They are in a 4:3 ratio and you will notice them in the toolbar just below the width measurement. Also notice that you can manually enter the pixel size for both width and height. Also note that there are two selections you can make when manually selecting the number of pixels. Unless you're a photo genius  make sure you have the "proportion" button highlighted (little red dot to the left). This keeps your photo in the standard 4:3 ratio mentioned above. Why is this important? Under normal conditions, you hold the camera in the standard position and your photo is taken in the 4:3 ratio. Tilting the camera on end alters the width to height ratio. By leaving the proportion button highlighted, you can enter 600 px in the height box and the width will automatically change for a proper photo size.

5. This is where most members screw up. :o After you set the proper size you must do two (2) additional steps. First, click on the APPLY button on the right side of the tool box. Nothing much will seem to happen. Now scroll down and click on the Replace Original button. It's located underneath and to the right of your photo. If you do not complete this step, you will never place the proper size photo on the Aqua site. This is the thing most members do not do.

6.After clicking on the Replace Original button, the screen will take a few moments to do its thing and a new window will magically appear. Scroll down and look to the right and you will notice several options for "sharing your photo". Click on the last (IMG) one and notice how a little yellow box appears to the left saying "copied".

That's it, you're done.
Go back to your post and place your re-sized photo into the post where you want it by pushing "Ctrl + V" (at the same time) and it will appear as code. By previewing your post before submitting, you can check that you did everything correctly.
