Installing a Tach on small OB

I have a 25 hp Johnson pull start motor,no charging system,also have some old working Tach's in the shed,is it possible to hook a Tach to the Johnson and how would i do it,thanks guy's  :salut:

Dammit, Scott, where's the gearheads when you need them?  I know it can be done, stator area, or something like that...

Just extend the leads to the helm or wherever...and I bet you can do this with any tach... :thumright:

I did know about tiny tach,maybe it can be done,a tach should be a tach i think  :scratch: so ground to ground and ign to #1 plug wire sound right.

Tiny Tach has something for any motor.  They even have one for diesels.  A little sensor clamps to a fuel injector line and senses the fuel pulses.

You can run a regualar marine tach off the stator on a 25, just like any other motor.  You will need to set the tach for the correct pulse setting for that application.

That sounds like what i wantd to hear,gonna try it and see what happens,will let you know how it goes.

On a Johnson I think the setting is for a 12 pole pulse.
