1986 250 family fisherman
« on: September 22, 2011, 01:42:38 PM »
Hi everyone, I'm currently in the process of buying a 1986 250 family fisherman walk around cuddy powered with a  92 yamaha 250hp 2 stroke. Looking for opinions on how these hulls handle? I'm currently running a 1977 Grady 20' dolphin and it's the best handling hull I've owned yet, but due to an expanding family selling the Grady and upgrading to a bigger boat. Any feedback on the family fisherman model would be apreciated. Thanks for your time. Looking forward to Taug season  up here in New England.

If the Grady is a WAC (I believe it is  ) then you will be familiar with the steering. That stated, you should enjoy the ride.

The hull is the 250 CCP (considered as a pretty fair offshore ride) with a WAC cap. It is 6" narrower in the beam than later model  Aqua WACs so the cabin may not be as wide as your Grady (?) but then it's longer. The 92 Yammy will push it but at the same time it falls into the non-fuel sippin' genre of the motors of that era. Still, I'm running a 91 200 and our Fearless Leader is running a 92 (same as yours) 250 so at least two of them are still out there.

Good luck

thanks for the feedback, Hopefully I'll have the boat next week if all goes well, and I'll post some pics. Can anyone give me a rough idea of fuel consumption she has trim tabs.

You should expect around 2 mpg at 4300 rpm cruise, correct stainless prop, 5500+ @ WOT.
