gauges
« on: September 13, 2011, 01:47:09 PM »
This year i put my 92 wac aquasport in the water and noticed that the gauges didn't work . I was wondering if anyone would know where i can buy two more . They are the digitial ones , which would lead to my next question should replace them with individual gauges ( fuel , speed , tach etc ). Which one should I go with

either Ebay or call The marine connection in Ft. Pierce, they have all the Yami stuff and good prices, although none of them are cheap, it's way below retail.  The other thing with buying used without testing first is, sometimes the Yami digital guages look fine, but when powered up, or after being being powered up for a while, the LCD will start to fade or blank out like the old LCD watches, where an "8" would like like a "9" because one of the lines is missing.

Let me ask this.
Neither gauge works at all, yet the motor cranks and starts correct?

Marc is dead on.  Older Yam gauges, the LCD screen will discolor to the point where you can't read them anymore...the gauges actually work, but.  And there is no way of fixing them.

Be prepared for a little sticker shock.  New replacements will run $300-400 per gauge...

CB,
I've run into this several times over the last couple of years.  It's inherant with the Yam digitals, ESPECIALLY those without some protection from the sun...

If you buy new, you'll be fine.  Try Pelican Marine, heard they have a pretty "fair" deal when you buy both the tach and the speedo...http://www.pelicanmarinecenter.com/

92 WAC eh.

I want to see a pic of the boat. :thumleft:

PS... My gauges are yellow as can be from the sun. Fortunately, the LCD screens still work but I had priced new gauges just in case. I keep a towel over mine when I'm not actually underway. They need to last a little longer, at least to 2012.

Sticker shock is saying it nicely. but then SB always had a way with words.

As I posted on here last year, when I switched over to the Yami Fuel Management guage/system, I bought the brand new in the box, guage, wiring harness and fuel transducer from MCL in Ft Perce for $299.  I called my local Yamaha dealer friend from MCL, and asked him what he could give me for a "good deal"...  around $800 retail, and he said he could make it a little better for me?  He said $300 is more than a steal.  Now I don't know what their prices on the tach and speedo are?  But it's worth a phone call, and since you are inquiring about a specific item/s, they know exactly what they have and the price, unlike panels, hatches etc... that they really can't ID for you unless ou have a sample to match with.

You guys are the best !!!! I don't care what those Grady White owners say ? No just kidding but thanks for the help and i will be buying new ones soon . Maybe you guys can answer another question too , when i'm going at cruising speed sometimes the motor cuts slows down . It seems as thought there is a lack of fuel , but it will pick up and go again , but never stalls or dies . does this sound as if there is a fuel pump problem ,leak, carb problem and i also heard that the older fuel lines don't like the newer fuel ? Any suggestions  :?  P.S going to get boat out of water this friday so i will post some pictures then it is a sweet ride !

Stuart, as mentioned previously, I don't think you have told us what engine you have?? If you have a newer DFI/EFI yamaha, the filter/S could definitely be a problem, they will cause surging and loss of power.  But we gotta know what's hangin on the transom.

Sorry about that ,it's a 92 Yamaha 200 hp . It starts and runs mint , but then sometimes when you are going faster it will basically cut back to an idle while still going ?
