More horsepower from outboard

Is it true that I can get more horsepower out of my Johnson 90hp simply by installing larger carbs

I was told by a mechanic that a 90 and a 115 are the same block and the only difference is the carbs.  Go talk to a mechanic or go visit http://www.themarinedoctor.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl and search the forum / ask him.

I talked to a hard core guy that rebuilds old Mercs.  He said that it was all in changing jet sizes in the carbs.  Anyone ever hear this?

Merc 75 & 90 are the same except for the carbs I'm told.  Don't know if this holds for other makes.

Or you could just put a set of higher horsepower decals on the motor - like some others have done...
