Last night as a white floor
Tomorrow I start with the tan gelcoat and anti skid. Under all the tape remains white. Everything else goes tan (except for the green “box” under the coffin box and center console area. That remains white).
Not as simple as it looks. I drew my lines then I sanded a 2 inch wide path with 80 then 320 to enhance water drainage on smooth gelcoat. I didn’t want the rough texture in the remaining lines. I did it with a multi tool so it was a little painful being all fours all day. Glad that is done.
Tomorrow I’ll roll a few squares, sprinkle medium grade “Soft Sand” and walk away until it kicks. Then I will come back and roll a waxed top coat.
The pattern was based on what the think will be best strategy for water run off and to give leeway for placement of the coffin box and pilot house. Would I have loved a nice clean edge 1” around everything?…. Absolutely. But I don’t even have the pilot house built yet so I’m using best judgement to have perpendicular lines visible but not too close to where everything should be placed. I am not painting under the coffin box and center console simply because I am trying to make sure I have enough Soft Sand grit and gel coat. I only have a gallon. The tan will protrude about 2 inches under the CB and CC so I have a little wiggle space for placement. Also I would prefer it be white under the center console for dim light visibility.

Tan gelcoat with anti skid.
It was a warm one today. 90 in the boat. Working time was at a minimum. I iced down the whole gallon of gel coat to buy time. Luckily it was just enough

Relied on my new “must use go to” tool for proper mixing. After the transom cap error I leave nothing to chance. THANKS RICK for the suggestion!!!!

Applied the gel coat with a roller then sprinkled the anti skid. Did not expect the gel coat and the anti skid to be the EXACT same color so I have no idea on coverage. I taped off all but two holes on the anti skid shaker so I had somewhat of a controlled sprinkle. At least you won’t be able to see if I went to light or too heavy. I think it will be okay. Going to let this kick off well then hit it again with a waxed coat. I used about 1500 ml of gel coat 500ml at a time.

Looks good Koz. Hope you went light on the top coat otherwise the sand disappears.

Glad you said that. Just about to go out and get started on the top coat. I was thinking about that as well. I’m going to thin it out with styrene just to make sure also I may need to use a roller pan. Can’t pour and roll if I want to stay thin. Thanks for calling this out I appreciate it.

I am completely in awe.
I can’t believe I did this. I have never done anything like this before. If I can do it ANYONE CAN!

Wow it came out top shelf insane. Thanks again to classicaquasport.com for showing me the way. I had to crawl around the gunwales and yoga pose my way to all the tape and pull it to see what it looks like. I am obviously elated at how it came out. Now if I could just stop advancing the project and finish it maybe I can fish by the spring!!
